Spice Telecom, a joint venture between ModiCorp of the Dr B K Modi Group, Distacom Communications of Hong Kong and Motorola of the US yesterday announced its plan to invest about Rs 1,000 crore in Punjab over the next four years.
Spice Telecom has been given license to operate mobile phone services in the Punjab and Karnataka circles.
At a press conference held here to launch the Spice Telecom brand, Sean Dexter, head of operations for Punjab, said: We see enormous potential. We hope to have over 25,000 subscribers in the first year of our operations here. He said Punjab is the best market for mobile phone services in India. But the market needs to be developed.
To begin with, Spice Telecom will be launching commercial services in Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh in the next few months.
