Information technology major Cognizant has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Anna University to train students recruited from the varsity as part of their industry-institute interaction process.
In June 2005, Chennai-based Cognizant recruited 504 third-year engineering students from various disciplines.
"These students will now be trained on various skills and participate in workshops and seminars to update their knowledge bank and skills," said R Chandrasekaran, executive vice-president and managing director of Cognizant.
N Lakshmi Narayanan, president of the company, said that this training would equip the students in a better way to meet the industry expectations, learn to tackle real-time problems at the workplace and provide better business solution for the clients. The company aimed to bridge the gap between the industrial expectation and the curriculum.
Cognizant, in a bid to have access to wider pool of potential recruits, is also looking forward to ink such MoUs with other leading engineering institutes in the state.
Initially, the industry will carry out the training. The college faculty will be engaged, if required. Necessary infrastructure will be provided at the university premises to organise the training programmes.
D Viswanathan, vice-chancellor, Anna University, said more industries with special emphasis on research-oriented activities would be set up in future.
