Momentum In-Ear: Plug these in, unplug from the world

Kakoli Chakraborty
The Momentum In-Ear earphones are the newest entrant to Sennheiser's Momentum series. These boast of superb sub-bass response and feature noise cancellation.

The earphones are dual-tone (red and black), and are made of plastic and steel. There is also a stainless-steel 'sound tunnel' when one removes the ear tips. The earphones are comfortable to wear and fit snugly in one's ear and don't fall off like many others. It comes in a nifty little case that also contains extra ear tips. These ear tips are of different sizes and you can choose one that is the right size for your ear. These earphones are light and don't cause discomfort during long usage.

There are two versions of the Momentum In-Ear: For iOS and Android devices. Both the versions contain a three-button remote. The remote will only work with the compatible device. If you're using an iPhone version on Android, you will be able to play media but the remote buttons won't work. Apart from the carry case, there are no other peripherals included with the earphones.

The unique selling point of these earphones is the noise-cancellation feature. Once these are plugged in at full volume, you don't hear anything else. For people who appreciate bass response while listening to music, these are perfect. They provide a listening experience that is unexpected from in-ear earphones. Only products from SkullCandy or Bose can rival these. In spite of being powerful, they do not 'bleed' into higher frequency zones leaving no room for excess mid-bass. The sound clarity is excellent and provides a clear separation between bass- and treble-focused sounds.

The only flaw in these earphones is the vulnerable cable joint where the cables meet the earpiece. One has to be careful to not tug it hard in order to prevent severing of the cable. But one can always choose to carry it in the carry case provided.

Priced at Rs 6,990, these are worth the price compared with other headphones in this series. If you liked SkullCandy's Skull Crushers and want the same but controlled bass response, these are the ones to go for. Currently, they are not available on e-commerce sites like Flipkart and Snapdeal, and can only be purchased from Sennheiser dealerships across the country.
