Sri Lanka keep their perfect record going in the Asia Cup 2025 with a hard fought win in Dubai tonight.

Sri Lanka overcame a spirited challenge from Hong Kong Cricket (HKC) to win a tense contest by four wickets with seven balls to spare in their Asia Cup 2025 group stage clash. Chasing 150, Sri Lanka were made to sweat as HKC’s bowlers fought valiantly, but a crucial no-ball in the 18th over and some dropped catches proved costly in the end.
Pathum Nissanka once again anchored the innings with a fluent 68 off 44 balls, guiding Sri Lanka through the early overs after a cautious start. Despite the early loss of Kusal Mendis and later Kamil Mishara, Nissanka held firm, punishing anything loose. His dismissal in the 15th over sparked a mini-collapse as Sri Lanka lost three wickets in quick succession, including the dangerous Kusal Perera and Asalanka, triggering hopes of an upset.
HKC were brilliant in patches, especially through spinners Yasim Murtaza and Ehsan Khan, who combined for key breakthroughs and nearly turned the match on its head. However, it was Murtaza’s costly over in the 17th, featuring a no-ball and a six off the resulting free-hit — that decisively swung the momentum back in Sri Lanka’s favour. Wanindu Hasaranga then finished the job with a composed cameo (18* off 6), hitting two boundaries off Ateeq Iqbal in the 19th over to seal the victory.
Earlier, Sri Lanka’s bowling effort had restricted HKC to 154, a total that looked slightly under-par given the surface. But it was HKC’s fielding, marred by dropped chances and a critical run-out miss, that proved their undoing.
Despite the loss, HKC can hold their heads high. They gave a top-tier side a real scare and showed they can compete at this level. For Sri Lanka, the win keeps their campaign on track, but not without warning signs.
