New Zealand, despite being reduced to 70 for 5 in the first innings, managed to outclass South Africa in the match as they won the second T20I of the tri-series in Harare by 21 runs to start their campaign in style. Tim Robinson (75 not out) was New Zealand’s biggest hero with the bat before a combined bowling effort handed them the win. With this loss, South Africa now have one win and one loss in the series and will be desperate to win their next match. On the other hand New Zealand with this win has secured the top spot in the points table.

Robinson-Jacobs fires up for NZ
Earlier in the match, the Proteas won the toss and opted to bowl first. New Zealand got themselves off to a fiery start, adding 22 runs in just two overs. But first, Tim Seifert (22) lost his wicket to Lungi Ngidi, and then Devon Conway (9) fell to Kwena Maphaka, halting the Kiwi momentum after just four overs.
The Kiwis then got hope from Daryl Mitchell and Tim Robinson, who scored some quick runs to take the total past 50, before Gerald Coetzee got Daryl Mitchell (5) caught at deep mid-wicket to give South Africa another wicket.
Mitchell Hay (2) was then removed by debutant Senuran Muthusamy, before Maphaka got the wicket of James Neesham (0), as the Kiwis lost five wickets inside the 10-over mark.
Meanwhile, Tim Robinson continued to fight alone and brought up his maiden T20I fifty to keep New Zealand alive in the game. He received brilliant support from Bevon Jacobs, and the two put up a half-century stand for the sixth wicket.
The duo refused to give South Africa any more wickets and batted till the end of the innings, adding 103 runs for the sixth wicket. Tim Robinson remained not out on 75, while Jacobs stayed unbeaten on 44 to take New Zealand’s total to 173 for 5 at the end of 20 overs.
South Africa’s chase falters despite Brevis’ effort
In reply, South Africa also started in a fiery manner, adding 34 runs for the first wicket in just 20 balls before Matt Henry got Lhuan-dre Pretorius (27) caught behind to give New Zealand their first breakthrough. Jacob Duffy then removed Rubin Hermann (1) in the very next over as the Proteas found themselves on the back foot early.
Kiwi skipper Mitchell Santner then struck in his very first over to remove Reeza Hendricks (16) to keep his team ahead in the match. Senuran Muthusamy (7) was the next batter to depart after being clean bowled by Ish Sodhi, before Rassie van der Dussen (6) ran himself out, as half the South African team was back in the pavilion before the ninth over.
However, Dewald Brevis (35) launched a counterattack to take South Africa’s total past 100 in the 12th over to keep the match alive but lost his wicket to Matt Henry in the very same over as the Kiwis tightened their grip on the match.
South Africa’s troubles continued when Ish Sodhi trapped Corbin Bosch (8) in front of the wicket to expose the Proteas’ lower order in the chase. George Linde (30) tried to keep the fight alive but was removed in the 18th over by Jacob Duffy, who on the very next ball dismissed Kwena Maphaka (0) to push the Proteas to the brink of a collapse.
That collapse was completed in the very next over when Matt Henry removed Gerald Coetzee (17) to bundle out South Africa for 152 and hand his team a 21-run victory.
