Maintaining a fair balance between bat and ball remains crucial to cricket, MCC Head of Cricket Fraser Stewart said on Wednesday, pointing to changes in the latest laws of the game aimed at rewarding the fielding side more.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Laws of Cricket 2026 Umpire's Workshop organised by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Stewart said Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) continues to monitor the balance of the game, which has increasingly tilted towards the batters.
"Absolutely, the balance of the game is crucial to cricket and in 2017 we reduced the sizes of bats to try to limit the power of the bat, the dominance of the bat over ball," Stewart told PTI.
"That's helped to have an effect but we still see, balls flying a long way. We can't stop batters getting stronger, working out in the gym and they're playing a very different brand of attacking cricket than perhaps was the day years ago," he added.

Skipper Shubman Gill clobbered an unbeaten 223, the fastest double hundred in 50-over cricket, and Rohit Sharma belted a 101 as two generations of super stars came together to give India a series-sealing eight-wicket win over the West Indies in the second ODI here on Wednesday.
West Indies might have desperately hoped that 405 for seven remained target far from Indians but how wrong were they!
The former captain, who snatched the crown for the fastest ODI 200 (117 balls) from his teammate Ishan Kishan (126 balls), and his successor, who made his 35th one-day century, piled 255 runs for the opening wicket in just 26.2 overs as India made 406 for two in 43.3 overs.
On a night when records tumbled at furious pace, India also recored their highest ODI run chase, and now they are only behind South Africa who lead the world pecking order with the chase of 435 against Australia in 2006 at Johannesburg.

FIFA's member federations should each get an extra USD 10 million from its swelling cash reserves after a successful World Cup, the soccer body's vice presidents from Europe and North America said in a letter Friday to its president Gianni Infantino as they step up efforts to oust him for trying to sell stakes in the tournament to private investors.
The letter says FIFA should have cash reserves of USD 6 billion after the World Cup and can afford such a "one-off release" - which would total USD 2.1 billion to the 211 federations - UEFA's president Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF's leader Victor Montagliani tell Infantino in a letter seen by The Associated Press.
UEFA and CONCACAF want to remove Infantino - either before or at the FIFA presidential election next March - after leading a global backlash in July against his World Cup sell-off plan to investors led by Joshua Kushner.

Cristiano Ronaldo was included in Portugal's squad by new coach Jorge Jesus for its upcoming Nations League games on Friday.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo said that this summer's World Cup was his last, but the global star has yet to say when he plans to retire from international play. He will be 43 by the time the 2028 European Championship, the next major tournament, is held.
This was the first squad named by Jesus, who was hired to replace Spaniard Roberto Martinez after Portugal lost 1-0 to Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup. Jesus' previous coaching job was with Ronaldo's club Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where they won the league together last season.
The 72-year-old Jesus has also coached several Portuguese clubs, including Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, is the leading scorer for men's international soccer with 146 goals. His greatest achievement with Portugal was helping it win the 2016 Euros.
