Oscar-winning composer and music director AR Rahman was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai on Sunday morning. While earlier reports suggested that he experienced chest pain, his team later clarified that he was hospitalised due to dehydration and neck pain. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin shared the update on Rahman's discharge from the hospital. "As soon as I heard the news that Isaipuyal @arrahman had been admitted to the hospital due to ill health, I contacted the doctors and inquired about his health! They said he is fine and will be back home soon! Happy," he tweeted.
The 58-year-old was hospitalised in Chennai after he went for a check up last night after feeling uneasy. Earlier today, the musician's team said, "All tests taken by doctors showed Rahman, 58, to be normal, and he is likely to be discharged today itself."
Rahman's team also refuted reports which claimed he had been admitted to hospital following "chest pain." "It's fake news (on heart issues) spreading now. Rahman went to hospital because he got dehydrated and has neck pain due to travel," they said, as reported by news agency ANI.
Rahman's son AR Ameen shared an update about his father's health on his Instagram Stories. "To all our dear fans, family, and well-wishers, I sincerely thank you for your love, prayers, and support. My father felt a bit weak due to dehydration hence we went ahead and did some routine tests, but I'm happy to share that he is doing well now," he wrote.
"Your kind words and blessings mean a lot to us. We truly appreciate your concern and continued support. Much love and gratitude to you all," he added.
Rahman, known for his music in films such as 'Roja,' 'Dil Se..,' 'Enthiran,' and 'Slumdog Millionaire,' recently composed the music for Hindi-language biographical drama 'Amar Singh Chamkila' directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh as the titular Punjabi musician and Parineeti Chopra as his second wife, Amarjot.
Besides his work in Indian cinema, Rahman has gained international recognition. His score for 'Slumdog Millionaire' (2008) earned him two Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song (Jai Ho).
