5 killed in a bomb attack in northern Kenya near the Somalia border

Five people have been killed in a bomb attack in northern Kenya, the interior ministry said Monday. The bomb exploded in El Wak town in Mandera County near the border with Somalia and wounded five other people. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the area has had other attacks carried out by Somalia-based al-Shabab militants affiliated with al-Qaida. The bomb had been placed on a donkey cart to avoid detection, the interior ministry said.

Kolkata airport receives second bomb threat in three days

Authorities at the Kolkata airport on Monday received a bomb threat by email, three days after a similar communication, triggering a frantic search across the facility, officials said.

 

However, the mail, which threatened to blow up the airport, turned out to be a hoax, they said.

 

The threat mail was sent to all airports in the country on Monday, said Aishwariya Sagar, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Airport Division of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.

 

Security agencies at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBIA) conducted a thorough search operation after receiving the email, she said.

 

The CISF conducted the search in the airport's terminal building and operational area, while police personnel carried out checks in the city side area. Sniffer dogs were also deployed during the operation, airport sources said.

Khalistan slogans at event attended by Trudeau, India summons Canada envoy

New Delhi on Monday summoned Canadian Deputy High Commissioner over raising of separatist slogans on 'Khalistan' at an event attended by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, underlining that it impacts the relations between the two countries and encourages "climate of violence". "The Government of India's deep concern and strong protest was conveyed at such disturbing actions being allowed to continue unchecked at the event. This illustrates once again the political space that has been given in Canada to separatism, extremism and violence," said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement.

FDA investigates complaints against McDonald's and Theobroma bakery in Noida

Assistant Commissioner (Food) FDA, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Archana Dheeran said, "...We got a complaint on the portal against McDonald's. The customer fell ill after consuming aloo tikki and french fries. We have taken action in this regard and taken samples of palm oil, cheese and mayonnaise...In another case, a complaint came against Theobroma bakery where someone fell ill (in Noida) after consuming stale cake from the bakery...We took a sample of the pineapple cake and sent it to the laboratory...If the product fails in the report then a case will be registered..."

PMLA court extends Shajahan's judicial custody in money laundering case till May 13

A special PMLA court on Monday extended the judicial custody of the now-suspended Trinamool Congress leader, Shajahan Sheikh, till May 13 in connection with a money laundering case over alleged siphoning of cash in the garb of pisciculture business. Sheikh was taken into custody by the ED on March 30 in connection with a mob assault on the agency's officials when they had gone to search his premises in Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on January 5 in relation to another money laundering case.

Senior Advocate Singhvi said, “I'm not named, charge-sheeted,” referring to Delhi chief minister during the hearing in the Supreme Court against his arrest by ED in connection with the liquor policy case. “Sarath Reddy made no allegations in his 9 statements. These were put in unrelied documents. Fairness of a prosecutor is the uppermost consideration. Obligation of prosecutor is to bring exculpatory material to light,” Singhvi added.
