A section of people taking out Muharram processions clashed with police and pelted stones at them, injuring around 10 cops and damaging several vehicles, after they were stopped from changing the designated route in west Delhi's Nangloi on Saturday, officials said.

Woman touches live wire, burns to death in Greater Noida

An 80-year-old woman was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live wire in Greater Noida, police said on Saturday.

A video of the incident that occurred on Friday surfaced on social media, purportedly showing the motionless woman's body burning while one of her hands remained connected to the wire.

The woman was on the first floor of her house in Mirzapur village when she accidentally touched the electricity wire outside the window of her room, police said.

Rahul Gandhi leaves hospital after week-long wellness treatment in Kerala

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday completed his Ayurvedic wellness treatment at the famous Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala here and left for Delhi.

In a Facebook post, Gandhi said his stay at the hospital was a rejuvenating experience.

He thanked the doctors and staff for the "love and care" they shared for him.

CM Mann to flag off school headmasters for training at IIM Ahmedabad

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will Sunday flag off a delegation of 50 headmasters of government schools for training at a premier management institute.

School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains Saturday said the first batch of 50 headmasters is being sent to the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

In a statement issued here, Bains said the Punjab government has decided to ensure specialised training for the headmasters at IIM Ahmedabad, which is renowned for its management courses all over the world.

More than 10 mn suggestions received over UCC: Law Minister Meghwal

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Saturday said that the Law Commission has received more than one crore suggestions regarding the Uniform Civil Code.

He said, "At this time we have received more than one crore suggestions. Decisions will be taken after the discussion of these suggestions. Whatever step will be taken, everyone will be informed".

He said that the government is seeking suggestions on UCC from every person and every section of the country.

Case registered against Sambhaji Bhide for remarks on Mahatma Gandhi; protests in Amravati and Yavatmal

The police in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Saturday registered a case against right-wing activist Sambhaji Bhide for his alleged derogatory remarks on Mahatma Gandhi, a day after the Congress raised the matter in the assembly, an official said.

The Rajapeth police have registered the case against Bhide under Indian Penal Code section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), the official said.

Congress workers held a protest in Amravati demanding that the sedition charge be also invoked against Bhide, while demonstrators tore the Hindutva leader's banners in Yavatmal.

Non-bailable warrant against Meerut BJP leader in sexual abuse case

A non-bailable warrant has been issued against a local BJP leader in a case of sexual abuse of a 17-year-old girl in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

According to the police, the teenaged girl, working in the office of advocate Ramesh Chand Gupta, has alleged that she was sexually abused by Gupta, his relatives, BJP metropolitan unit general secretary Arvind Gupta Marwari and Uttar Pradesh Consumer Cooperative Union Sanjeev Goyal Sikka.

Advocate Gupta was arrested on June 21 in the case.

The new National Education Policy (NEP) will give due respect and credit to every language in the country and those who try to politicise language for their selfish interests will have to shut their shops, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

Delivering the inaugural address at the "Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam" on the third anniversary of the launch of the NEP, Modi said the biggest injustice to students is judging them on the basis of their language, instead of their capabilities.

"The National Educational Policy will give due respect and credit to every language in the country.... Those who try to politicise language for their selfish interests will now have to shut their shops," the prime minister said.

"Here to represent people of Manipur": Opposition delegation after reaching Imphal

A 21-member delegation from the Opposition grand alliance - I.N.D.I.A - on Saturday arrived in Imphal as part of a two-day visit to violence-hit Manipur.

After setting foot to the state, the Opposition leaders said the purpose of their visit was to "represent the demands of the people".

Speaking to ANI after arriving at Imphal airport, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, who had earlier filed a motion of confidence against the Centre in the Lok Sabha, over the Manipur situation, said, "We want the people to be heard. We are going to convey their demand in Parliament. We have come to represent the people of Manipur and their concerns."

Tripura: Toll in Rath Yatra mishap rises to 10

The toll in the Kumarghat Rath Yatra electrocution climbed to 10 with another woman succumbing to her injuries at a hospital in Delhi where she was undergoing treatment, officials said.

Six people died on the spot and several were injured as a Rath or ceremonial chariot of Lord Jagannath caught fire after coming in contact with a high-tension wire in Tripura's Unakoti district. The incident happened in Kumarghat area during the 'Ulta Rath' festival on June 28.

BJP national chief Nadda visits Jaipur, to chair core committee meeting

BJP National President JP Nadda on Saturday offered prayers at the Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple in Jaipur.

On a day-long visit to the state, the BJP national party president will chair a core committee meeting of the party in Rajasthan while also interacting with state party leaders individually.

The move comes as the party prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.

Delhi court denies 'default bail' to three PFI members

A Delhi court has denied "default bail" to three members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), who are accused in a money-laundering case related to alleged terror activities.

Special Judge Shailender Malik dismissed the applications of accused Mohammad Ilias, Mohammad Perwez Ahmed and Abdul Muqeet, seeking default bail in the money-laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saying he did not find any case made out for the relief.

The accused were arrested on September 22, 2022 and are currently in judicial custody. The ED had filed a prosecution complaint (the federal agency's equivalent of a chargesheet) against them on November 19, 2022.
