Textile companies said they were keen to expand in the stateThe new industrial policy announced by the Punjab government yesterday has not only been hailed by the various industry chambers, but also by some of the textile players who said they were keen to expand in the state.Ludhiana-based Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertaking said the policy would pave the way for rapid industrialisation. Upkar Singh, joint secretary of the chamber, said the policy was aggressive, proactive and incentive-based, wherein inputs of all stakeholders, including industrial associations, entrepreneurs and government departments, had been taken. Nahar Group has current denim capacity of 20 million metres an annumTextile major Nahar Group today said it will invest Rs 1,500 crore in ramping up its spinning and denim capacities in Punjab, a day after the state government announced new industrial policy offering a host of incentives."We have chalked out a plan to invest Rs 1,500 crore on expansion in Punjab," Nahar Industrial Enterprises Vice-hairman & Managng Director Kamal Oswal told PTI here.In line with the expansion programme, the company plans to install 200,000 spindles at its yarn manufacturing facilities at Larlu in Mohali and at Jodhan and Malerkotla in Ludhiana district.Nahar Group has current capacity of 800,000 spindles.Besides, the Nahar Group will also double its denim manufacturing facility by expanding the capacity by 20 million meters per annum in Ludhiana.The company has current denim capacity of 20 million meters per annum. Rs 65,493 crore penalty on excess miningUnfazed by criticism from miners on its move to recover cost of excess ore production, the state mining department has asked the deputy directors of mines (DDMs) to finalise demand for recovery by the end of this month after hearing out the lessees."We have urged the DDMs to complete hearing and finalise demand for recovery by June end. The DDMs have been asked to hear out as many lessees as possible. But the hearing will not be applicable to those miners who have moved the revision authority (under Union mines ministry)," said director (mines) Deepak Mohanty.The state steel & mines department had imposed a total penalty of Rs 65,492.73 crore on 104 errant lessees found guilty of extracting excess ore during 2001-10, a move contested by around 20 miners in the revision authority under Union mines ministry.
