2025 Hockey Asia Cup India vs Japan highlights
The hosts India continued their winning streak in the Asia Cup Hockey 2025 on Sunday after they beat Japan 3-2 in their second match of the tournament to confirm their place in the Super 4s stage. Meanwhile, Japan, after this loss, will have to face China in a do-or-die game on Monday with the last Pool A Super 4 spot on the line.
1st quarter: India start strong
India started aggressively in the match and were able to find their first goal after just four minutes thanks to a brilliant field goal from Mandeep Singh. A minute later, skipper Harmanpreet converted a penalty corner to extend India’s lead to 2-0. India continued to attack for the rest of the quarter, allowing Japan no chance to make a comeback as the first 15 minutes ended with the scoreboard reading India 2-0 Japan.
2nd quarter: Goalless quarter
Japan started confidently in the second quarter, putting Indian defenders under pressure early. But India continued to fend off everything the visitors threw at them to keep their lead intact. Japan got four penalty corners back to back in the 25th minute, but India defended every chance to keep Japan goalless. No goals were scored by either team in the quarter as the first half of the match ended with India still leading 2-0.
3rd quarter: Harmanpreet keeps India’s lead intact
India created three big chances early in the quarter, but brilliant work from Japanese keepers and defenders kept India’s lead at 2 goals. Japan finally fought back and scored a goal in the 37th minute to reduce the deficit to 1-2 thanks to Kosei. But Harmanpreet Singh struck one for India just before the hooter for the quarter as India finished the quarter with a 3-1 lead.
4th quarter: India held their nerve
Japan scored their second goal in the 58th minute and India played the rest of the game with just 10 men, but still kept their nerves intact to finally win the match by a 3-2 margin.
