AAP, Cong criticise Haryana govt for using 'prison buses' for deportees

The AAP and the Congress on Sunday slammed the BJP-led Haryana government for allegedly sending buses meant for prisoners to the Amritsar airport to take back the deportees hailing from the state. A US military aircraft carrying 116 illegal Indian immigrants from the US landed at the Amritsar International Airport late on Saturday night. The fresh batch of deportees included 65 immigrants from Punjab and 33 from Haryana. Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh received the Indian deportees at the airport on Saturday night. Taking a dig at neighbouring Haryana, Dhaliwal, an AAP leader, said that like last time (February 5), the state again sent two buses used to transport prisoners to take back its citizens. "I request Anil Vij, who is the transport minister, that they should not send buses used for prisoners..," Dhaliwal said. On February 5, the US had deported 104 illegal Indian immigrants to Amritsar. Of them, 33 each were from Harya

BJP gets boost for MCD mayoral poll after 3 AAP councillors join party

Three AAP councilors switched over to the BJP on Saturday, boosting its chances of victory in the upcoming MCD mayoral poll. Welcoming the councilors, city BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Delhi will have a "triple engine" government -- at the Centre, assembly and municipal level -- at the right time to develop it as the capital of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision under a 'Viksit Bharat". The three councilors are Anita Basoya (Andrews Ganj), Nikhil Chaprana (Hari Nagar) and Dharamvir (R K Puram). Sachdeva said the councilors joined the BJP to make Delhi a clean and beautiful city. In the wake of its recent resounding victory in the Assembly polls, the BJP is eyeing a "triple-engine government" in Delhi by securing the post of mayor. The BJP won 48 of the 70 Assembly seats, ousting the AAP from power after a decade. The mayoral election is scheduled to be held in April. The AAP had won the last mayoral election, held in November 2024, by three votes. Besides the councilor

Atishi claims 'internal tussle' among BJP MLAs over portfolio allocation

Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday said "internal conflicts" are happening among BJP MLAs over portfolio allocation and accused the party of making excuses to avoid fulfilling its poll promises. Addressing a press conference, Atishi claimed that BJP leaders were engaged in a "tussle" over ministerial posts to "exploit" public funds. She further alleged that the BJP had no intention of delivering the commitments the party made in its election manifesto. "We have learned from our sources that the BJP is planning to blame the AAP for its failure to fulfil promises. They will claim that the Delhi government has no money due to the previous AAP administration," Atishi said. Highlighting the AAP government's financial track record, she stated that Delhi's budget had increased from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25 during its tenure. "In the last 10 years, Delhi's budget has grown 2.5 folds. The Arvind Kejriwal-led government even repaid the debt inheri

BJP sees red over renaming of CMO Delhi X handle, seeks LG's intervention

The BJP on Thursday demanded the lieutenant governor's intervention into renaming of official 'CMO Delhi' handle on X to 'Arvind Kejriwal At Work' allegedly at the behest of the former chief minister. The BJP must stop making "baseless allegations" and focus on governing Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said in a statement. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva demanded Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to seek a report from the IT department of the government on renaming of the 'CMO Delhi' handle on X and its alleged use for putting up posts of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP has returned to power in Delhi after 26 years, defeating the AAP in February 5 assembly polls. The party's government is yet to be formed. "It would not be an exaggeration to say that as soon as his corrupt government collapsed, Arvind Kejriwal has also become a digital looter, Sachdeva charged. He strongly condemned Kejriwal for allegedly renaming the official handle created by using publi

BJP will turn Delhi into UP: Atishi claims power cuts in national capital

Outgoing Delhi chief minister Atishi on Thursday said within three days of AAP loosing its hold in the national capital, the city has been facing power cuts. The senior AAP leader said BJP wants to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, a city known known for hours long power outages. No immediate reaction was immediately available from the BJP. Addressing a press conference, Atishi claimed that within three days of AAP ousted of power in Delhi, more than 40 outages were reported from different areas of the city and people have now started buying inverters. "Under the AAP government, the power sector was continuously monitored which has now collapsed within three days with BJP coming to power," she charged. Delhi HC seeks Amanatullah Khan's stand on ED plea in money laundering case

The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the stand of AAP leader Amanatullah Khan on the Enforcement Directorate's plea challenging a trial court order refusing to take cognisance of a chargesheet filed against him and releasing him in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board. Justice Vikas Mahajan issued notice to the AAP MLA from Okhla and listed the matter for further hearing on March 21. The judge also asked the trial court to defer its proceedings till after the next date of hearing in the high court. The court passed the direction after the ED counsel made a request for the same on the grounds that while the trial court had refused to take cognisance of the prosecution complaint (chargesheet) against Khan and his wife, it was scheduled to hear the matter on Friday against other accused. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday alleged that the ongoing internal tussle within the BJP was delaying the appointment of a chief minister for Delhi and affecting the governance of the national capital. Responding to the allegations, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said it is regrettable that despite being rejected by the public, the AAP leaders are still making false statements. AAP's chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar alleged that long power cuts were being reported in several parts of the city due to the BJP's inaction, an official statement from AAP stated. "It has been several days since the election results were announced, yet the BJP has not been able to decide on a chief minister. Meanwhile, Delhi's residents are suffering from prolonged power cuts. "Why should the people of Delhi bear the brunt of the BJP's internal fight?" Kakkar said. Responding on the claims of power cuts, BJP's Kapoor said, "After being rejected by all sections of society in the ...
