MoRTH proposes installation of inbuilt collision warning system in 4-Ws

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed the installation of an inbuilt 'moving off information system' (MOIS) in certain category of four-wheelers passenger and commercial vehicles to reduce the possibility of collision with pedestrians and cyclists in close proximity. MoRTH in a draft titled 'Approval of motor vehicles with regard to the Moving Off Information System for the Detection of Pedestrians and Cyclists' has specified the automotive industry standard for MOIS and will be notified after public consultation. Moving Off Information System (MOIS) means a system to detect and inform the driver of the presence of pedestrians and cyclists in the close proximity and if deemed necessary, based on manufacturer strategy, warn the driver of a potential collision. In 2022, most accidents reported from 6pm-9pm, 20% of total mishaps: MoRTH

A total of 94,009 road accidents were reported between 6 pm and 9 pm last year, accounting for over 20 per cent of the total mishaps in the country, according to a report by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The six hours from midnight till 6 am saw the least number of accidents, the report said. "In 2022, the time interval between 18:00-21:00 hrs recorded maximum number (94,009) of road accidents, accounting for 20.4 per cent of the total accidents in the country... and this is in line with the pattern seen over the past five years," the report said. A total of 4,61,312 road accidents were reported by states and Union Territories in 2022, claiming 1,68,491 lives and injuring 4,43,366 people. According to the report, 79,639 road accidents were reported from 3 pm to 6 pm, constituting 17.3 per cent of the total mishaps. Mizoram (85) recorded the highest accident severity, followed by Bihar (82.4) and Punjab (77.5) in 2022, as per the report. Road accident severity .

Delhi recorded highest number of road accidents at 5,652 last year: MoRTH

Delhi recorded the highest number of road accidents in 2022 among cities with a population of over a million people, followed by Indore and Jabalpur, according to a report by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Delhi recorded 5,652 accidents, followed by Indore (4,680), Jabalpur (4,046), Bengaluru (3,822), Chennai (3,452), Bhopal (3,313), Mallapuram (2,991), Jaipur (2,687), Hyderabad (2,516) and Kochi (2,432), the report said. These 10 cities accounted for 46.37 per cent of the total road accidents in 50 cities with a population of one million each. A total of 76,752 road accidents were recorded in 2022 in these 50 cities, resulting in a loss of 17,089 lives and causing injuries to 69,052 people. 168,491 died in 461,312 road accidents in 2022: Road ministry report

A total of 4,61,312 road accidents occurred in 2021, which claimed 1,68,491 lives, while 4,43,366 people were injured, according to a new report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The report titled 'Road accidents in India -- 2022' said this marks an 11.9 per cent year-on-year rise in accidents and a 9.4 per cent increase in fatalities. There was a 15.3 per cent surge in people getting injured in 2022. As per the report, during 2022, a total of 4,61,312 accidents were recorded in the country, of which, 1,51,997 (32.9 per cent ) took place on the national highways (NH), including expressways, 1,06,682 (23.1 per cent ) on state highways (SH) and the remaining 2,02,633 (43.9 per cent) on other roads. 2 cargo ships collides off coast of Germany, 1 sailor dead and 4 missing

Two cargo ships collided in the North Sea off the coast of Germany on Tuesday and one of them apparently sank, German authorities said. One sailor died and four were missing. At least 13 people were killed and several others injured on Monday when a passenger train collided with a freight train in Bangladesh, officials said. 12 women among 13 dead in blasts at 2 Tamil Nadu firecracker units

At least 14 persons were killed and two injured in two separate fire accidents at fireworks units in Rangapalayam and Kichanayakanpatti village in the district on Tuesday, police said. Taiwan factory fire leaves at least 5 dead, more than 100 injured

A fire and subsequent explosions at a golf ball factory in southern Taiwan killed at least five people and injured more than 100 others, and five people are still missing. 5 dead after inhaling suspected poisonous gas at factory in Morena district

Five labourers died after inhaling suspected poisonous gas emanating from a tank at a factory in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, a senior official said. Gas started emanating from a tank at the factory which makes food products around 11 am and two labourers entered it to check it, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Bhupendra Singh Kushwaha told PTI. They took ill after inhaling the gas. Three more labourers got affected subsequently, he said. US: Bus filled with teen campers crashes on winding highway, injuring 11

A school bus carrying teenage campers rolled over on a winding Idaho highway on Friday afternoon, injuring 11 people, the Idaho State Police said. Thailand train collision with pickup truck kills 8 people and injures 4

Eight people were killed when a freight train struck a pickup truck crossing the tracks in an eastern province of Thailand early Friday morning, authorities said. 17 dead as crane falls on bridge at Samruddhi Expressway construction site

Seventeen workers were killed and three injured as a crane fell on a bridge slab during construction of the third phase of Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Thane district on Tuesday, an official said. 4 killed due to electrocution during Muharram preparation in Jharkhand

9 killed as speeding car ploughs into crowd at accident site in Ahmedabad

Amarnath Yatra: 2 more pilgrims die, 8 CRPF personnel injured in accident

The death toll in the ongoing Amarnath Yatra climbed to 27 on Sunday with two more deaths, while eight CRPF personnel on their way to offer prayers at the cave shrine were injured in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district, officials said.
