Bharat Electronics, Israel Aerospace Industries form joint venture firm

Navratna defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel's leading aerospace and defence company, have announced the establishment of a joint venture company (JVC), which has been incorporated in the name of BEL IAI AeroSystems Private Ltd. The JVC with its registered office in Delhi shall be the single point of contact (SPOC) for extending long-term product support to the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) systems of India's defence forces, Bengaluru-headquartered BEL said in a statement on Thursday. "The partnership marks another significant step in cementing the relationship between the two companies that have a long history of association for strategic programmes. BEL and IAI are collaborating on several joint programmes for the Tri-services," it said. Engine maker GE Aerospace plans increasing sourcing components from India

Engine maker GE Aerospace plans to increase sourcing of components from India, which is a growing aviation market, a senior company official has said. The company has a manufacturing facility in Pune and the John F Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru. Currently, it has 13 major suppliers, including Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL). Mahendra Nair, Group Vice President for Commercial Programs at GE Aerospace, said India's contribution to the supply chain will increase. "We have got some very capable companies in India with the right engineering talent, the right production footprint and as long as they can meet the technical standards that we are looking for, it is only upside and it is going to grow. FWDA announces successful maiden flight of indigenous bomber aircraft

Bengaluru-headquartered Flying Wedge Defence and Aerospace (FWDA) on Tuesday announced the successful maiden flight of indigenous unmanned bomber aircraft, the FWD 200B. Classified as a Medium Altitude (15,000 feet) Long Endurance (MALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), the FWD 200B is equipped with optical payloads for surveillance and missile-like weapons for air strikes and bombing, the FWDA Founder and CEO Suhas Tejaskanda told reporters here. "The aircraft's aerodynamics design, airframe, propulsion systems, controls systems, electronics are all made in India at FWDA's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility of 12,000 sq.ft built on 1.5 acre land, located at Electronic City, Bengaluru," he said. FWD 200B features a wingspan of five metres and a length of 3.5 metres. It has a maximum take-off weight of 102 kg and a payload capacity of 30 kg, the company said. Mahindra Group, Sentrycs ink pact for development of anti-drone solutions

Mahindra Group and Israel's Sentrycs Ltd on Friday said they have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for developing and providing 'differentiated anti-drone solutions' in India. The solutions will cover civilian and military applications, the two companies said in a joint statement. The MoU relates to the 'anti-drone systems' technology space and will focus on the Transfer of Technology (TOT) and manufacturing of radio frequency-based counter-drone solutions under the government of India's 'Make in India' initiative, it added. IT major Tech Mahindra on Thursday said it has inked a pact with UK-based engineering service provider Marshall Group to combine their digital solutions and engineering capabilities to spur advancements in aerospace and the defence industry. US aerospace major Pratt & Whitney on Wednesday announced the establishment of a new Customer Service Centre (CSS) in Bengaluru. As part of the company's India Capability Centre, the new facility will drive customer service and operations support for Pratt & Whitney Canada's 68,000 engines in service globally, the company said. Co-located with Pratt & Whitney's supply chain operations, engineering, and digital transformation centres of excellence in India, CSS will deliver a range of services such as MRO support, spare part management, engine leasing, engine reliability analysis and contract administration. GE Aerospace to invest Rs 240 cr to upgrade Pune manufacturing facility

GE Aerospace on Thursday announced its plans to invest over Rs 240 crore (around USD 30 million) to upgrade its manufacturing facility in Pune. The investment will be used to add new projects and manufacturing processes in the facility by acquiring machines/equipment and specialised tools along with capacity enhancement of existing products, the company said in a statement. Inaugurated in 2015, the Pune facility produces components for commercial jet engines. "This investment helps us to continue our growth in aerospace in India, giving us the resources we need to meet increasing customers' demand," said Amol Nagar, managing director for GE Aerospace's Pune facility. The components produced at the plant are supplied to GE's global factories where they are used to assemble G90, GEnx, GE 9X commercial jet engines, and the LEAP engines by CFM, which is a GE and Safran joint venture, according to the statement.
