Ambala Cantt

Six time MLA Anil Vij's home turf - Ambala Cant. Vij, 71, wants to be CM if BJP wins, defying the party announcement that Saini is the CM face. He said that he wants to be CM based on seniority. Has contested Ambala Cantonment eight times, won six times.

Vij is senior most MLA and served as Home Minister under Khattar but was dropped from the Nayab Singh Saini cabinet. Vij oversaw the home ministry department in Haryana when Nuh violence took place in 2023.

Earlier in May, Vij had expressed his displeasure with the party, claiming that he was being sidelined and treated like stranger.

In 2014, Vij  Anil was in race to become Haryana CM. When there were talks that BJP may choose a Punjabi face over Jat face, Vij’s position was strengthened. However, BJP named first time MLA Manohar Lal Khattar as CM.

During Lok Sabha polls in June, Vij had remarked he would campaign only in his assembly constituency.

In this seat, the Congress has chosen Parvinder Singh Pari. However, before facing off against the BJP, the party has to first contend with an internal strife, as Chitra Sarwara – the daughter of Nirmal Singh, another Congress candidate from Ambala— has decided to run as an independent candidate. Sarwara had contested the seat as an independent candidate last time and lost to Vij by 20,000 votes.
