Five students suspended at Delhi's Ambedkar University amid protest

The Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) administration has suspended five students, including elected representatives of the student union, triggering sharp criticism and allegations of repression by the Students' Federation of India (SFI). AISA claims AUD suspended 11 students for harassment, cites no transparency

The All India Students' Association on Sunday claimed Dr B R Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) suspended 11 students for allegedly harassing a classmate, saying the administration "recklessly handled" the matter and that its decision lacked "transparency". The alleged suspensions came after an inquiry into an incident of harassment at the university's Karampura campus earlier this month where a student was said to have faced severe harassment by classmates, it said. The university has not commented on the suspensions. The alleged bullying escalated over time, leading the student to attempt suicide and prompting the university administration to initiate an investigation. AISA termed the alleged suspensions "unjust" and demanded an immediate revocation of the order. DU, Ambedkar University sign MoU to work in emerging areas like AI

The Delhi University and the BR Ambedkar University on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work in emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence and its impact on social sciences, officials said. The MoU will provide an opportunity towards optimum utilisation of resources like libraries, research laboratories, auditoriums, and sports grounds among other facilities of the two varsities, Ambedkar University said. It marks a significant collaboration between the Delhi government's Ambedkar University and the University of Delhi, a central university. Not cut-offs, clearing Class 12, CUET now enough to secure admissions to DU

From the academic year 2022-23, students will only need to clear Class 12 and CUET to be eligible for admissions to Delhi University (DU). The proposal to consider passing marks in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions, and not the cut-offs as earlier, was passed by the varsity's executive council during its meeting on Friday. The university also accepted the proposal to set up Delhi School of Analytics (DSA) under Institutes of Eminence. The DSA will offer short and long-term certificate courses, diploma and degree programmes that will enhance the business analytical skills of students. A proposal to borrow money from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) was also accepted by the council despite some members showing dissent. The DU will be submitting a proposal of Rs 1,075.40 crore to HEFA for infrastructure development and the creation of capital assets.
