Andhra Pradesh to launch LEAP model for education revamp, says Nara Lokesh

Andhra Pradesh is revamping its education model this month with the launch of LEAP (Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh) model, aimed at overhauling curriculum, pedagogy and infrastructure, according to Education Minister Nara Lokesh. Play-based curriculum, pedagogy training and an AI-driven remedial assessment programme, Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), are among the major highlights of the model. "Andhra Pradesh is pioneering a new era of education through LEAP focusing on foundational learning, global best practices, and inclusive growth," Lokesh told PTI. The model will be introduced from the 2025-26 academic session. 900 Kia car engines stolen in Andhra Pradesh over 5 years, police probe

As many as 900 Kia car engines were allegedly stolen in Sri Sathyasai district, prompting the South Korean company to lodge a complaint with the police, said an official on Tuesday. Kia runs a car manufacturing plant at Penukonda in Sri Sathyasai district, where police believe the engines theft began nearly five years ago. The company filed a police complaint on March 19. It (engine thefts) started in the year 2020. It has been a continuous process, nearly five years. Centre releases over ₹4,200 crore to Andhra for Amaravati capital project

The Central Government has released over Rs 4,200 crore to Andhra Pradesh for Amaravati Capital Development project after it (centre) received the first disbursement of USD 205 million from the World Bank, a senior official has said. The World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) together committed to fund USD 1600 Million (Rs 13,600 crore), USD 800 Million each, for Amaravati capital city phase-I development, while the Centre will be contributing remaining Rs 1,400 crore, out of the Rs 15,000 crore committed by the Central Government for phase-I of the development. According to the World Bank documents the project became effective on January 22 this year and the first disbursement of USD 205 million for program advance was done last month. Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief Y S Sharmila Reddy on Wednesday condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill as an "attempt to undermine" the religious freedom granted to Muslims under the Constitution. She called the bill a "plot" to suppress minorities and a violation of constitutional values. The APCC president claimed that the bill was part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's agenda to allegedly hurt Muslim sentiments, terming it a "black day" for India and a means to incite religious hatred. Centre, Andhra framing joint action plan to strengthen Vizag Steel Plant

The central and state governments are formulating a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the Vizag Steel Plant (VPS). A delegation from the Union Ministry of Steel held discussions with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Undavalli, Guntur district, on Monday, said an official release. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced that the process of recruiting 16,347 teachers through the District Selection Committee (DSC) examination will begin in the first week of April. Addressing the third Collectors' Conference at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the teacher recruitment process should commence in early April and conclude with their appointment before schools reopen for the next academic year in June. Georgia National University to set up varsity in Andhra at Rs 1,300 cr

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Nara Lokesh on Monday said Georgia National University (GNU) has signed an agreement with the state government to establish a varsity in North Andhra region at an outlay of Rs 1,300 crore. The Education Minister highlighted that this partnership would elevate education standards to a global level, calling it a "big leap" for higher education in the state. GNU has signed an MoU (agreement) with the AP Govt (Andhra Pradesh government) in my presence to establish an International University in North Andhra with a Rs 1,300 Cr (crore) investment, said Lokesh in a post on X. Noted Gandhian and social worker Pasala Krishna Bharati passed away at her residence here on Sunday due to old age. She was 92. Oji India Packaging Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Oji Group, inaugurated its fifth facility in the country at Sri City in Andhra Pradesh, a top official said on Saturday. Breakfast meeting revives Ashok Leyland's stalled bus plant in Andhra

Ashok Leyland, the world's fifth-largest bus manufacturer, in 2018 announced plans to set up a new factory near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone for the unit, which was expected to produce 4,800 buses annually, was laid in March 2018 but work stalled due to a change in the state government. Upon finding out about the stalled project, Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh Minister and chairman of the cabinet committee on job creation, invited the Hinduja family to Hyderabad for a breakfast meeting on December 22, 2024.
