Auto major Hyundai crosses 1 million sales mark for SUVs made in India

South Korean auto major Hyundai on Monday said it has crossed 10 lakh cumulative sales milestone of SUVs made in India. These SUVs have been sold both in India and export markets, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement. The launch of mid-sized SUV Creta in 2015 accelerated Hyundai Motor India's growth in the segment with cumulative sales of over 5.9 lakh units in the domestic market and over 2.2 lakh units in the export market, it added. Similarly, the company had introduced compact SUV Venue in 2019 and has already sold over 1.8 lakh units in the domestic market, it added. Commenting on the feat, HMIL Director (Sales, Marketing & Service) Tarun Garg said, "As frontrunners in the introduction of revolutionary technologies, we continue to establish new milestones and redefine benchmarks across segments." Steel shortage from Posco may force automakers to suspend production: SIAM

Auto industry body SIAM on Monday said supply shortage of steel from Posco's Maharashtra-based plant could lead to suspension of production at various facilities of leading companies. Raigad-based manufacturing plant of South Korean steel major Posco is one of the major suppliers of steel in the industry. It is currently facing labour issues that have resulted in the disruption of supply to some of the leading automakers in the country. "Disruptions in supplies from Posco Maharashtra Steel has resulted in non-availability of steel for some of the major Auto OEMs," Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General Rajesh Menon said in a statement. As per industry sources, auto companies such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor, Kia Motors, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra source steel from the Posco plant.
