Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department has identified over 240 rooftop restaurants in the city which have allegedly violated fire safety norms and license rules, officials said on Sunday. These include bars, hookah bars and pubs, they said. Following a massive fire that broke out at a cafe in a multi-storied commercial building in the posh Koramangala area here early this month, the fire department started inspecting various such premises to check if the fire safety norms in these establishments were complied with. "Since the major fire incident at Koramangala, we started inspecting such rooftop establishments and so far till October 26, the fire department has identified 243 premises which have violated fire related safety norms and license rules," a senior fire official said. The Kempegowda International Airport operated by Bangalore International Airport Limited maintained an "impressive" on-time departure experience for passengers, with 87.51 per cent punctuality in July, 89.66 per cent in August, and 88.51 per cent in September, a BIAL statement said on Tuesday. The death toll in the fire accident at a cracker shop near here reached 14 on Sunday following the death of two more people, police sources said. While 12 people were charred to death on the spot at the shop-cum-godown at Attibele in Anekal Taluk on Saturday, two others died while undergoing treatment today. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar visited the spot on Saturday and announced a compensaton of Rs five lakh each to the deceased. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over the deaths. Most of those who died were employed at the firecracker godown-cum-shop, police said, adding efforts are being taken to ascertain the identity of the deceased. The incident occurred around 3.30 pm while unloading firecracker cartons from a transport vehicle. "Some employees were working inside the shop when the fire broke out," Superintendent of Police (Bengaluru Rural) Mallikarjun Baladandi said. Bengaluru has a total of 2,79,335 stray dogs, found a systematic estimation survey carried out by the city civic body. It revealed that there is a 10 per cent reduction in the street-dog population as compared to the previous survey in 2019 which had estimated the figure at 3,10,000, according to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which undertook the exercise. At the same time, the overall neutering percentage has increased by 20 per cent from the estimated 51.16 per cent in 2019 to 71.85 per cent leading to reduction in puppy numbers, the report released on Wednesday stated. The Bengaluru Police have busted a Rs 854 crore cyber fraud scam and arrested six people who allegedly cheated thousands of victims across India on the pretext of an investment scheme, officials said on Saturday. Out of the total cheated amount, Rs five crore had been frozen, they said. The accused gang lured the victims through Whatsapp and Telegram. Initially, they were asked to invest smaller amounts ranging from Rs 1,000 to 10,000 on the pretext that they would earn Rs 1,000 to 5,000 per day as a profit, a senior police officer said. Thousands of victims invested money ranging from Rs one lakh to 10 lakh or more, he said. The money invested by the victims was dumped into different bank accounts through online payments. However, after completing the investment process, when the victim tried to withdraw the amount, they never got any refund, he added.
