Chana futures fall 0.53 per cent on muted demand

Chana prices declined by 0.53 per cent, to Rs 4,700 per quintal in futures trade on Thursday after participants reduced their exposure amid subdued demand at spot market. Profit-booking at higher levels also weighed on the sentiment. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, Chana for delivery in December was trading lower by Rs 25, or 0.53 per cent, at Rs 4,700 per quintal, with an open interest of 30,470 lots. The January rates also fell by Rs 16, or 0.34 per cent, to Rs 4,694 per quintal with open interest of volume stood at 14,010 lots. Marketmen said trimming of bets by traders due to easing demand in physical market against adequate stocks, mainly led to fall in chana prices at futures trade here.

Mentha oil goes up in futures trade

Mentha oil prices were higher by 1.35 per cent to Rs 1,664 per kg in futures trade Thursday as speculators built up fresh positions following pick up in demand in the spot market. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in current month traded higher by Rs 22.10, or 1.35 per cent to Rs 1,664 per kg, clocking a business volume of 128 lots. Marketmen said building up of fresh positions by speculators, driven by pick up in demand from consuming industries in the spot market, mainly influenced mentha oil prices at futures market here.

Sensex opens on a bullish note

The benchmark equity index S&P BSE Sensex registered a bullish jump on Thursday morning with Sensex gaining 150 points, while NSE's Nifty 50 above 10,600 at around 10.48 am. The jump was attributed to stronger rupee and softening of crude oil prices in the international market.The shares of Yes Bank, one of the largest private sector lenders currently mired in a spate of resignations, climbed 3 per cent on the BSE Sensex during morning trade on Thursday, following the reports of December 13 board meeting to discuss the appointment of key functionaries among other issues.

Nissan board to decide on dismissing Ghosn as chairman

Nissan's board of directors will meet Thursday to decide whether to dismiss its chairman Carlos Ghosn following his arrest on suspicion of underreporting his income. Earlier this week, alliance partner Renault voted to keep him as its chief executive but appointed Thierry Bollore, the chief operating officer, as interim chief. Nissan Motor Co Chief Executive Hiroto Saikawa has said Ghosn should be ousted. Ghosn is suspected of under-reporting USD 44.6 million in income from 2011 to 2015, according to Tokyo prosecutors. Nissan's board consists of nine members, including Ghosn and a representative director named Greg Kelly, who also was arrested Monday on suspicion he collaborated with Ghosn in false financial reporting. A majority, or at least four votes out of seven, is needed to move ahead on their dismissal.
