Express logistics company DTDC on Wednesday said it has entered the Malaysian market through its subsidiary, DTDC Global Express PTE Ltd, with the inauguration of an office in Kuala Lumpur. This newly established office, which further strengthens the company's global footprint, including in Southeast Asia, will offer enhanced trans-shipment solutions to its clients in Southeast Asia and the Australian peninsula, DTDC said in a statement. The Indian Navy on Saturday contained a fire onboard a commercial oil tanker with 22 Indian crew in the Gulf of Aden while swiftly responding to a distress call from the vessel after it was struck by a missile on the key shipping route that witnessed similar strikes in the last few weeks. Following the Mayday call from the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel MV Marlin Luanda on Friday night, the Indian Navy deployed its guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam to assist the vessel. A Malta-flagged bulk carrier sustained damage from a missile fired at it in the Red Sea on Tuesday, Greek officials said. Though no group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, suspicion immediately fell on Yemen's Houthi rebels. The Zografia had been heading north to the Suez Canal when it was attacked, the Greek Shipping and Island Policy Ministry said. The ship had no cargo on board and sustained only material damage, the ministry said. The crew includes 20 Ukrainians, three Filipinos and one Georgian. SpiceJet's cargo arm SpiceXpress on Thursday said it has partnered with Bengaluru-based Star Air to manage the belly space capacity for carrying cargo in Star Air's fleet. The Kolhapur-headquartered Sanjay Ghodawat Group-owned Star Air has a fleet of nine Embraer planes, operating across 20 domestic destinations. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) on Tuesday said its cargo volumes rose 42 per cent in December 2023 to 35.65 MMT (million metric tonne). According to a APSEZ statement, 10 ports in the APSEZ portfolio delivered their highest-ever cargo volumes, recording new operating milestones. The billionaire Gautam Adani's firm handled 311 MMT of cargo during the nine months of FY24, which is 23 per cent higher year-on-year. Mundra Port alone managed around 5.5 MTEUs in initial nine months, it added. For the quarter ended December, APSEZ handled around 109 MMT of overall cargo, the statement said. APSEZ CEO and whole-time director Karan Adani said, "APSEZ crossed the 300 MMT cargo mark in just 266 days versus its previous best of 329 days in the previous financial year". Mundra Port, the flagship of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), has set a record by handling 16.1 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in October, the highest-ever volume by any port in India. Mundra Port, the country's largest port, crossed the 100 MMT-mark in 210 days, surpassing the record of 231 days last year, APSEZ said in a statement. According to the statement, Mundra witnessed a double-digit growth on a Y-o-Y basis for containers (+10 per cent) and liquids and gas (+14 per cent). It achieved another milestone of handling 4.2 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) of containers in just 203 days, a feat achieved in 225 days in the previous financial year. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Monday said it has handled 101.4 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo during the first quarter of FY24. At 101.4 MMT, the cargo handling was 11.5 per cent higher over April-June period of preceding 2022-23 fiscal, APSEZ said in a regulatory filing. "Growth has been observed across most ports and all three broad cargo segments -- container over 19 per cent, liquids & gas 8 per cent, and dry bulk 7 per cent," it said. In June alone, APSEZ handled 32.8 MMT of cargo. APSEZ is the largest commercial ports operator in India accounting for nearly one-fourth of the cargo movement in the country. It is present across 13 domestic ports in seven maritime states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.
Cargo traffic handled by major ports in the country witnessed an annual rise of 3.2 per cent to 68.06 million tons (MT) in May this year, an official release said on Monday. These ports had handled a total of 65.94-million tons in May 2022, it said. During May 2023, the major ports handled a total 68.06 MT of cargo, against 65.95 MT handled during the corresponding period of last year, a year-on-year growth of 3.20 per cent, Indian Ports Association (IPA) said in a statement. There are 12 major ports, -- Deendayal (Kandla), Mumbai, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore (Kamarajar), Tuticorin (V O Chidambaranar), Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
