Nottingham Forest draws at Crystal Palace as Champions League hopes fade

Nottingham Forest drew with Crystal Palace 1-1 in the Premier League on Monday and saw its Champions League hopes fade. Nuno Esprito Santo's men have spent most of the year in the league top three but a run of one win in four has dropped them behind Chelsea, Newcastle and a resurgent Manchester City. A win at Selhurst Park would have brought them equal with Chelsea and Newcastle but one point means it stays in sixth, with the top five qualifying for next season's Champions League. Neither team was able to take control of a sometimes scrappy match that saw eight names go in the referee's book. Palace took the lead with a penalty kick after an hour. After a video review, Matz Sels was adjudged to have felled Tyrick Mitchell and Eberechi Eze made no mistake from the spot. Forest bounced right back within four minutes, Murillo doing enough to deflect a goal-bound shot from Neco Williams away from the keeper. Eze hitting the woodwork in the dying seconds and Eddie Nketiah having a goa

Milan score twice in two minutes to keep Champions League hopes alive

AC Milan scored twice in two minutes to beat Genoa 2-1 in Serie A on Monday and keep alive its slim hopes of a place in next year's Champions League. Genoa substitute Vitinha scored a minute after taking the field to give his side the lead after 61 minutes. But Rafael Leo levelled 15 minutes later when his powerful shot was deflected into the net, and two minutes later Genoa captain Morten Frendrup put one into his own net. Although Milan remained in ninth place, it closed the gap on the top four to six points. Juventus was fourth, equal on points with Roma and Lazio below it. Three rounds remain. Milan's last three games are against Bologna, Roma and bottom club Monza. Genoa has lost its last three games and sits in 13th.

Race for remaining Champions League spots in France remains wide open

The race for the remaining Champions League places behind Paris Saint-Germain remains wide open in the French league after Marseille drew 1-1 at Lille on Sunday. With two rounds of matches left, and PSG already crowned champion, second-placed Marseille missed the chance to open up a three-point gap on Monaco after goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli's blunder in the 74th minute. The top three teams qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, with the fourth team getting a spot in the qualifying rounds. Marseille has a one-point lead over Monaco, which won 3-1 at Saint-Etienne on Saturday, with a trio of chasing teams Nice, Lille and Strasbourg lagging one point further back. Lille striker Jonathan David intercepted Rulli's attempted pass inside the box and headed the ball toward Matias Fernandez Pardo, who shot past the goakeeper into the back of the net. Amine Gouiri had put Marseille in front in the 57th minute from Adrien Rabiot's assist at the conclusion of a fine collective ..

Guirassy hat-trick not enough as Barcelona reach Champions League semis

Serhou Guirassy and Borussia Dortmund did what no else has been able to in 2025 they beat Barcelona. It still wasn't enough to reach the Champions League semifinals. Guirassy scored a hat trick and still ended up on the losing side as Dortmund's 3-1 win over Barcelona the Spanish club's first defeat of any sort since December wasn't enough to prevent a 5-3 aggregate loss. After being swept aside 4-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinal, Dortmund had nothing to lose Tuesday and attacked Barcelona from the start, leaving the visitors off-balance. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, who has plenty of experience of facing and beating Dortmund from his time in the German league, said the passionate home crowd meant he'd expected a tough second leg despite his team's four-goal lead. I had a little bit of a feeling that something like this was coming, Flick told broadcaster Amazon Prime. Today you have to say congratulations to Dortmund, they played a very good game, and congratulations to

Forest edge closer to Champions League as City stumble against Brighton

Champions League qualification is getting tantalizingly close for Nottingham Forest. For Manchester City, there's still plenty of work to do. Forest, a team many might have thought would be battling relegation this season in the Premier League, moved just a point behind second-place Arsenal by beating Ipswich 4-2 on Saturday. More importantly perhaps for Forest, the gap to City grew to six points after the soon-to-be-deposed champions drew 2-2 at home to Brighton. City is hanging onto fifth place, which is likely to be the final Champions League qualification position from the Premier League for next season. Certainly any ambitions for a record-extending fifth straight league title are long gone for City, which is 22 points behind first-place Liverpool with nine games left. Own-goal costs Man CityCity twice took the lead in the first half, through Erling Haaland's penalty and Omar Marmoush's fierce outside-of-the-area shot, but was pegged back each time by an opponent also in ...

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer injures himself while celebrating a goal

Perhaps Manuel Neuer should stick to stopping goals. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper injured himself while celebrating a goal during his team's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday. It led to the 21-year-old Jonas Urbig, a winter signing from Cologne, going on to make his Bayern debut. Neuer went off with what looked like a right ankle injury in the 58th minute, shortly after celebrating Jamal Musiala's goal Bayern's second on the night with a little jump near the halfway line. "It happens sometimes," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said. "It's a pity for us, but we've always talked about the squad. that's how we've come so far, in the league and where we are, and that's how it's going to stay. If it's Urbig, it's Urbig and we're not going to worry about it." Urbig had little to do as Bayern maintained its dominance of the game. The visitors had Nordi Mukiele sent off with a second yellow card and Harry Kane made it 3-0 from the penalty spot to score his

Man City captain Walker faces racist abuse online after Juventus defeat

Manchester City captain Kyle Walker said he was subjected to vile, racist and threatening abuse after the team's loss to Juventus in the Champions League and called Thursday on social media platforms to do more to stamp out the problem. City condemned the abuse, calling it disgusting and saying the club will be offering Kyle our full support. Walker posted one of the racist messages on his Instagram Stories, and wrote underneath: Instagram and the authorities need to stop this happening for the sake of all who are suffering this abuse. It is never acceptable. England's account on social media platform X said: "We are incredibly disappointed that Kyle has been subject to such abhorrent abuse on social media. Discrimination of any kind is completely unacceptable. We support strong action by the authorities and social media companies. City was beaten 2-0 by Juventus and has won just one of its last 10 games in all competitions, an improbably poor run of results for the winner of the

Champions League: Man City stumble vs Juventus; Barcelona, Arsenal win

Manchester City plunged deeper into trouble in the Champions League by losing 2-0 at Juventus, the latest setback in a scarcely believable run of poor results for the ailing English champions. City dropped to 22nd place in the 36-team standings, with only the top 24 advancing. Progressing to the next round of the new-look format looked a certainty before the season for a team that was European champion in 2023 and has won the last four Premier League titles. But not anymore as City manager Pep Guardiola battles injuries and an apparent loss of belief among his players. City has won just one of its last 10 matches in all competitions, with goals by Duan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie inflicting the latest defeat and igniting Juventus' qualification hopes. City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan described the team's problem as a "mental issue." Opponents "are able to break our rhythm with the smallest of things," Gundogan said on Wednesday. "They don't even need to do much and it has such a b

Salah stars as Liverpool maintain perfect Champions League run with 1-0 win

Mohamed Salah scored a second-half penalty to maintain Liverpool's perfect Champions League record in a 1-0 win over Girona. A sixth straight win kept the Merseyside club at the top of the revamped 36-team league stage five points clear of second place Inter Milan. Girona was 30th with just one win from six games. Salah struck from the spot in the 63rd minute in Spain. It was his 16th goal of the season in 22 appearances overall. Dinamo Zagreb drew 0-0 with Celtic and both teams remain in the playoff positions. Liverpool's outstanding start to the campaign goes on with Arne Slot's team also on top of the Premier League. Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek handed Salah the chance to fire the visitors ahead with a clumsy tackle from behind on Luis Diaz in the box. Salah stepped up to convert the penalty and Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga went the wrong way. Liverpool's two remaining games are against Lille at home and PSV Eindhoven away in January. Mbappe, Vinicius and Bellingham on target as Real Madrid beats Atalanta 3-2

Real Madrid's big stars turned on the style to revive the Spanish giant's faltering Champions League title defense. Galacticos Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham all scored in a thrilling 3-2 win at Italian league leader Atalanta. But Madrid still had to ride its luck as Mateo Retegui fired over from in front of goal in stoppage time when handed a golden chance to level the game. It was only Madrid's third win in the competition's revamped league phase and leaves the 15-time champion in the unseeded playoff positions in 18th place. It's a very important win. Not everyone wins here. We suffered and competed. In the Champions League, you have to suffer, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. It's still difficult to finish in the top eight, but we have two games left to earn points. Six-time champion Liverpool leads the way after maintaining its perfect record in Europe this season with a 1-0 win against Girona. Like Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain also picked up a much-neede

Mbappe due for tests on his broken nose as France gets 'positive' news

Kylian Mbapp was due to have tests on his broken nose on Wednesday as France tried to assess what part he could play in the European Championship. The World Cup winner sustained the injury during his team's 1-0 win against Austria on Monday and will have to wear a face mask if he plays on at the tournament. There will be more tests tomorrow to see how things are developing. Obviously it was a big collision," France coach Didier Deschamps said Tuesday. "The medical staff have done what they needed to reduce it as much as possible. This morning he was a bit better, so we will see that and we will follow it closely each day. France plays the Netherlands in its second game of Euro 2024 on Friday. It was not known if Mbapp would be able to play after his face collided with the shoulder Austria's Kevin Danso as he attempted a header late in the Group D match at Dusseldorf Arena. The French Football Federation said it had received positive news about Mbapp's chances of continuing at the .

Wembley Stadium beefs up security for Champions League 2024 final

Wembley Stadium has significantly beefed up its security operation for the Champions League final on Saturday, intent on avoiding a repeat of the lawlessness that tarnished the Euro 2020 showpiece. Real Madrid faces Borussia Dortmund at England's national stadium, where three years ago 2,000 ticketless English fans violently stormed past stewards to get inside to watch their men's national team play Italy in the European Championship final. The past two Champions League finals have also been marred by problems. UEFA was primarily blamed for security failures in 2022 in Paris when Liverpool and Madrid fans were held in crushed queues. Last year, fans complained of transportation problems accessing the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, where Manchester City beat Inter Milan. Saturday's final will feature the largest deployment of stewards 2,500 in Wembley Stadium history and follows 5 million pounds ($6.3 million) of security upgrades including new gates and perimeter fencing, improved locks
