Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said the Delhi government's "carelessness" is responsible for the death of three students at a coaching institute in the national capital. Three civil services aspirants died after the basement of a building housing Rau's IAS Study Circle coaching institute was flooded following rain in central Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar area on Saturday evening. Delhi Education Minister Atishi has sanctioned the release of Rs 100 crore for the financial year's second quarter to fund 12 Delhi University colleges. Petrol pump owners seek to meet Delhi transport minister over PUCC rates

Petrol pump owners on Thursday wrote to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, seeking a meeting with him to revise PUCC rates for Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates in the national capital. The letter comes days after the Delhi Petrol Dealers' Association (DPDA) shut down nearly 600 PUC centres functioning at petrol pumps, saying the hike was not commensurate with operational costs. On July 11, the Delhi government increased the PUC certificate charges for petrol, CNG and diesel vehicles after a gap of about 13 years. The hike ranges between Rs 20 and Rs 40. "Sir, most of the PUC centres have operated the last few years in losses to avoid any inconvenience to the general public. However, due to this extreme unviability, many PUC centres have been forced to surrender their licenses in the last few months. The Managing Committee of the DPDA had thus resolved to close PUC centres across Delhi from July 15 in light of the "arbitrary and grossly insufficient hike", it said.

BRS leader K Kavitha, lodged in Tihar jail, taken to DDU hospital

BRS leader K Kavitha, who is lodged in Tihar jail here in connection with a money laundering case, was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on Tuesday, officials said. The 46-year-old Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case on March 15. Delhi HC sets July 25 deadline for Centre to decide on office space to AAP

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted the Centre time till July 25 to decide on allotment of office space to the AAP here on account of it being recognised as a national party. On June 5, the high court granted six weeks to the Centre to decide the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) request in this matter. The Directorate of Estates, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, on Tuesday, sought four more weeks to comply with the court's direction, stating it was occupied with the "mammoth task" of alloting accommodation to parliamentarians. The senior counsel appearing for AAP opposed the Centre's request and emphasised that keeping in view the six-week deadline, which is expiring on Wednesday, the Supreme Court has granted the party time till August 10 as the last opportunity to vacate its present office in Rouse Avenue. Petrol pump owners said PUC centres will be shut from Monday onwards, expressing their dissatisfaction over the recent proposed hike in rates of pollution certificates by the city government. The operation of the pollution under control (PUC) centres is unviable, they said in a statement issued on Sunday. Munak Canal breach fixed; water supply from Dwarka plant to normalise

The Munak Canal breach that led to flooding in the Bawana area and impacted the water supply in different parts of the city has been fixed, the Delhi government said on Friday. In a statement issued late night, it said water is likely to reach the Dwarka plant by Saturday morning. Residents of the area have been grappling with water shortage since the breach in one of the sub-branches of the canal, which supplies water from Haryana to Delhi, late Wednesday. The Supreme Court on Monday said it would consider listing of a fresh petition of AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia by which his bail plea has been sought to be revived in the excise policy scam cases. On June 4, the top court had refused to entertain the bail pleas of Sisodia in cases lodged by the CBI and the ED in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam. Excise scam: Delhi HC asks CBI to respond to Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the CBI to respond to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the corruption case registered by the CBI in connection with the alleged excise policy scam. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna issued a notice to the CBI on the bail plea and listed it for further hearing on July 17. Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, said the AAP leader is not a flight risk and not a terrorist and the CBI arrested him after he got bail in the ED's money laundering case. The Delhi government has issued the Flood Control Order for this year, days after Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena flagged that it had not been issued. After Delhi was hit by incessant rains on Friday, leading to waterlogging and loss of lives, Saxena had said it is shocking that the Flood Control Order and de-silting of drains that should have been issued and completed by June 15 were pending. "The Flood Control Order, normally issued after the Apex Committee meeting chaired by the Hon'ble chief minister, is pending with the Hon'ble minister," he had said.
