Six pistols, 60+ bullets seized from Delhi Metro in 2 years: RTI reply

In a concerning revelation about security in the capital's Metro network, the Delhi Police recovered 16 bullets, 31 cartridges and 14 live cartridges across various stations in the city over two years and three months during their vigilance operations, an RTI response has revealed. Furthermore, the Delhi Police's Metro Unit has also recovered six pistols, including five country-made ones, during its security checks across the city's Metro network during the period, it revealed. According to the data revealed by the RTI, till March 15 this year, the Metro unit of the Delhi Police had seized seven cartridges during its operations. The police also recovered one country-made pistol, it mentioned. In 2024, the police seized 12 bullets, eight cartridges and four live cartridges. It also recovered four pistols, including three country-made ones, during the year, the RTI revealed. While the recovery of pistols marked an uptick from the year 2023 to 2024, it showed a downward trend in the .

SC orders ex-IAS probationer Puja Khedkar to appear before police on May 2

The Supreme Court on Monday directed former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, accused of cheating, and wrongly availing of OBC and disability quota benefits in the civil services examination, to appear before Delhi Police on May 2. A bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma said no coercive steps will be taken against Khedkar till May 21, the next date of hearing. Ahead of the production of 26/11 Mumbai attacks alleged mastermind Tahawwur Hussain Rana before Patiala House courts in the national capital, Delhi Police removed mediapersons and members of the public from the court premises, citing security concerns. The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Friday a plea seeking a direction to Delhi Police to lodge an FIR over the alleged discovery of semi-burnt stash of cash from the official residence of High Court judge Yashwant Varma. According to the SC's cause list for Friday, a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan is scheduled to hear the matter. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna on Wednesday had refused urgent hearing after lawyer Mathews J Nedumpara mentioned the plea. The plea was filed by Nedumpara and three others on Sunday seeking a direction to police to lodge an FIR in the matter. Delhi Police has introduced the 'Shishtachar' squads to curb eve teasing and ensure women safety and security, an official said on Thursday. The official said these district-wise squads are keeping a strict vigil in areas around malls, schools and markets to curb crimes, including eve teasing, molestation and other forms of harassment, against women with the objective of fostering a safer public environment. The 'Shishtachar' squads during patrolling detained people acting suspiciously as a preventive measure and asked women if they had any complaints. Cash stash at judge's home: Phones of 8 Delhi cops under forensic probe

Mobile phones of eight Delhi Police have been seized and sent to the forensic department as part of an investigation into the alleged discovery of a cash pile from Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma's residential premises, police sources said on Thursday. Under this process, the mobile of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Tughlaq Road Police Station, investigation officer Havaldar Roopchand, Sub-Inspector Rajneesh, two personnel who arrived at the scene on mobile bike patrol, and three PCR personnel are being examined, the sources said. Authorities are now trying to determine whether any videos were recorded on these mobile phones when the officers arrived at the scene during the fire, one of the sources said. Police team visits Delhi HC Judge's residence over cash allegations

A team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) on Wednesday visited the residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma in connection with the investigation into the alleged discovery of cash, official sources said. Police sources said the police team will carry out an inspection of the place where the fire occurred and may question staff working in the judge's residence. On March 22, the CJI constituted the three-member committee to conduct an in-house inquiry into allegations and decided to upload the inquiry report of Chief Justice D K Upadhyay of the Delhi High Court in the incident. Delhi Police has registered a case against more than 30 people operating from Punjab, Haryana, and other states into a large-scale visa fraud racket after a complaint by the US Embassy in New Delhi's Chanakyapuri area, an official said on Thursday. According to the FIR registered following the complaint on February 27, the fraudulent activities took place between May and August 2024, where the embassy highlighted 21 alleged instances of conspiracy between agents and applicants to cheat the US government. This case comes at a time when the US government under President Donald Trump has been cracking down on visa fraud and unlawful immigration.
