Doctors provide elective OPD services outside Nirman Bhawan in Delhi

Doctors have decided to provide elective outpatient services outside Nirman Bhawan on Monday as they continue their strike for the eighth day over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. Resident doctors will be available to provide elective OPD services in around 36 specialties, including medicine, surgery, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, and orthopedics, to patients outside Nirman Bhawan on Monday, according to a statement by the AIIMS RDA. However, emergency services will continue as before at the hospitals. The doctors' strike in the national capital over the rape and murder of a medic at a state-run hospital in Kolkata completed a week on Sunday and is now entering its second week, causing difficulties for patients. Speeding Mercedes mows down man in southeast Delhi, driver arrested

A man died after he was allegedly mowed down by a speeding Mercedes car here in southeast Delhi, police said on Sunday. The driver of the car was arrested later, they said. According to the victim's family members, the car allegedly hit his cycle from behind and it was dragged on the road for several metres. The 35-year-old victim died on spot after the accident Saturday morning while the driver of the car, Pradeep Gautam (45) from Noida, fled from the scene with his vehicle, police said. The accident happened near Bhogal Flyover in Ashram area when the victim was on his way to work, they said. "The victim was identified as Rajesh from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh," a senior police officer said. The officer said he worked as a gardener in Jor Bagh area. Rajesh rode his cycle almost 20 kilometres from Madanpur Khadar to Jor Bagh, a family member said. Police said a hit-and-run case was registered against Gautam and he was arrested. Delhi coaching centre deaths: Court reserves order on accused's bail pleas

A Delhi court is likely to pronounce on August 23 its order on the bail applications of four jailed co-owners of a coaching centre basement where three civil service aspirants drowned last month. Principal District and Sessions Judge Anju Bajaj Chandna on Saturday reserved the order after hearing arguments from the CBI as well as the accused -? NCRTC invites bids for co-branding rights for 5 stations on RRTS corridor

The national capital region transport corporation (NCRTC) has invited bids for exclusive semi-naming and co-branding rights for its five stations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, a statement said on Friday. The five stations for which the semi-naming/co-branding rights are available are Duhai, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North and Meerut South, it said. This initiative aims to enhance passenger experience and convenience while generating Non-Fare Box Revenue to support the operational costs of the RRTS Corridor. Brands awarded these rights will have the opportunity to prefix or suffix their names to station names, incorporate their brand colours on station walls, hoardings and entry/exit points, and utilise both bare and built-up retail spaces, the statement said. Delhi borders face traffic restrictions, routes diverted ahead of I-Day

Several traffic diversions were imposed on borders of the national capital from Monday in view of Independence Day celebration with heavy vehicles prohibited from entering the city, according to an advisory. According to the police advisory, elaborate law and order and traffic arrangements have been made for the celebrations on August 15. No heavy transport vehicle (HTV) will be allowed to enter the city on Monday at 10 pm to Tuesday 12 pm and similarly from Wednesday 10 pm to Thursday 12 pm, the advisory stated. In view of the restrictions, the police urged essential service providers to keep sufficient essential commodities such as oxygen cylinders, among others in advance so that they may not face any difficulty during this period, it said. Heavy rain lashed many parts of the national capital on Sunday afternoon, leading to waterlogging and traffic snarls in several areas as the weather office predicted more showers in the Delhi-NCR area in the evening. The city recorded a low of 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is likely to settle at 32.0 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The humidity was recorded at 92 per cent at 8.30 am. The IMD has issued an orange' alert for the city that signifies being prepared' for extremely bad weather and potential disruptions to transport, rail and road. Rain lashed parts of the national capital on Saturday, sending the morning traffic out of gear and led to collection of water in many places. The Public Works Department said it received 20 complaints of waterlogging during the day, while the Municipal Corporation of Delhi received five complaints of similar nature as well as uprooting of trees Delhi's maximum temperature on Saturday settled at 32.8 degree Celsius, one notch below the season's average. Theatre groups criticise new 'burdensome' MCD rules for performing in Delhi

A new set of rules by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, which requires performing art groups to go through a lengthy paper trail in addition to a licensing fee of Rs 1,000 for each performance, has directors and performers rattled for the entailing financial and procedural burden. The recently launched unified online portal for eating, lodging and boarding establishments in the national capital also asks event organisers for dance, theatre and music to submit clearance from municipal corporations, Delhi fire service, Delhi Pollution Control Committee, and Delhi Police, apart from the licensing fees of Rs 1,000.
