Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that director level officers have been deputed in all districts to ensure proper inspection, supervision and management of the health centres and hospitals in the state. These officers would provide assistance in removing shortcomings in hospitals to facilitate patients, Vij said in an official release here yesterday. He said that these officers would visit allocated districts regularly and supervise the Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, Sub Divisional hospitals and district hospitals. Apart from this, they would submit their suggestions to the health minister or the health department for fulfilling the requirements in hospitals so that people would not face any inconvenience, he added.
A US diplomat, who killed a Pakistani motorcyclist in a road accident last month, has left the country amidst controversy over his immunity from prosecution. Defence attache Colonel Joseph Hall killed a motorbike rider and injured another on April 7 in Islamabad after jumping a red signal. A case was registered but he was never formally arrested due to diplomatic immunity. The government reportedly took the decision after the US government assured that Colonel Hall will be tried under US laws, the diplomatic sources were quoted as saying by Dawn News. The diplomat has since left for Afghanistan on a special flight. The US Embassy in Islamabad also confirmed that the US diplomat has left Pakistan, the report said. Diplomatic sources further confirmed that Colonel Hall was a US diplomat who held absolute immunity as per the Vienna Convention of 1972 and the privileges Pakistan extends to diplomats. Relatives of the victims had asked the government to prosecute Colonel Hall for murder. ..
District authorities have distributed ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to family members of two persons killed in the district in the recent storm. Zishan (22) and Riyasat (55) were killed in Mujheda and Pawti villages respectively in the district on Sunday. Both were killed after a tree fell on them, said District Magistrate Rajiv Sharma. As many as 80 people were killed in five states due to thunderstorms and lightning strikes since Sunday, with Uttar Pradesh alone recording 51 deaths.

Three persons were killed when a house collapsed in the Sadar Bhatti area today, the police said. The incident took place when the house of Haji Abid was undergoing repair works, the police said. The house collapsed and the debris fell on the passers by, they said. Three people, included two women, were killed in the incident.
Three senior Pakistani officials say a US diplomat who killed a Pakistani motorcyclist in a road accident last month has left the country after getting clearance from authorities. The officials said that US military attache Col Joseph Emanuel Hall was allowed to leave the capital Islamabad and head home today. The development comes days after Pakistan sent back an American plane, delaying the return of Hall to the United States. Marathi actress Prarthana Behere was today injured in a road accident near Lonavala town on Pune-Mumbai expressway, police said. The incident occurred when Behere (25) was travelling to Kolhapur, located around 239 kms away from here, for promotion of a Marathi film along with co-actor Aniket Vishwasrao and her hair stylist. "The driver of the car in which Behere and others were travelling in lost his control over the vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a tempo parked at roadside. However, he rammed into the same tempo," a district police officer said. In the mishap, one of Behere's hands got fractured, he said, adding that she also sustained injuries to one of her legs. "Vishwarao and other occupants of the car escaped unhurt," he said. The 'Pavitra Rishta' actress was rushed to a private hospital by her colleagues for treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable, the officer said.
Around 50 people had a narrow escape when a fire broke out at a restaurant in a shopping mall here today, an official said. The fire broke out at around 12 pm in the Moti Mahal restaurant located at the third floor of Ansal Plaza in Palam Vihar, he said. "A team of firefighters with two fire tenders and local police were rushed to the spot. Within a few hours, the flames were doused and around 50 people were safely rescued from the restaurant," Gurgaon Police PRO Ravinder Kumar told PTI. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he said.
At least six persons, including a girl aged under four years, were killed and several others injured early today when thunderstorm lashed parts of Bihar, uprooting trees, electric poles and billboards.
