HRD ministry approves 5,000 additional seats for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday approved an increase of 5,000 seats at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country. In the last four years there has been an addition of 9,000 seats in the residential schools for talented rural children. With the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry approving the addition of 5,000 more seats, the number of seats has increased from 46,600 to 51,000 at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) . The admission to the additional seats will start in the 2019-20 academic session. This is a step in the right direction. This is the biggest-ever expansion of quality education for rural students. This unprecedented expansion of JNVs, nearly free of cost residential schools, will provide more opportunity for talented children from rural areas to get quality education," Javadekar said. JNU admin slams teachers association for opposing compulsory attendance rule

The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration slammed the varsity's teachers association for seeking opinion of colleagues from foreign universities on compulsory attendance for faculty members "just to oppose the administration". The JNU Teachers' Association (JNUTA) had recently shared findings of a survey conducted by them among universities across the world to obtain views on the marking of attendance for faculty, said JNUTA secretary Avinash Kumar. "No university/institutes of higher learning in 75 premiere and highly ranked universities across 21 countries except one, has the practice of faculty signing daily attendance register or using biometrics," he said. 7 KVs to be opened soon, Javadekar assures Arunachal

Union minister Prakash Javadekar has assured the Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra that seven proposed Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the state would be opened this financial year, an official release said Sunday. The Union human resource development minister gave the assurance when the governor called on him in New Delhi and discussed issues regarding education in the state on Saturday. Javadekar said the seven KVs would be opened within this financial year and the requisite cabinet proposal will be moved shortly. The proposed KVs are in Kurung Kumey, Dibang Valley, Namsai, Upper Subansiri, Anjaw, West Siang and Upper Siang districts. Classes suspended to hold blanket distribution prog at primary school, principal suspended

The principal of a primary school here has been suspended after classes were halted at the institute to hold a blanket distribution programme there, officials said. Basic Education Officer of the district Santosh Rai said Sunday Gorakhnath Yadav has been suspended with immediate effect. "Action has also been recommended against the village Pradhan, Aasmaan Thothaa, village under the Sahatwar police station area)," he said. The Balia district administration had Saturday ordered a probe into a blanket distribution programme held in the school, where classes were halted and a dance programme was also organised. "On Friday, a blanket distribution programme was held at a primary school in Aasmaan Thothaa village under the Sahatwar police station area. An undergraduate student in Maharashtra's Amravati district has alleged that state Education Minister Vinod Tawde ordered his arrest when he was recording a conversation between him and a fellow student, a charge denied by the minister. The student, Yuvraj Dabad, also claimed that following the alleged order, the local police detained him for a couple of hours, seized his smartphone and returned it after the video-recording was deleted from it. Tawde, however, refuted the allegation, saying he did not order the student's arrest and that "lies" were being spread against him. UP: School expels girl for protesting against molestation

Performance of states in education to be graded: Javadekar

Union Human Resource and Development Minister Prakash Javadekar informed that states will henceforth be graded on the basis of their education performance, largely based on 70 parameters.After a National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) executive meeting, Javadekar said on Saturday, "State performance grading will be done on 70 parameters that will improve the quality and will give clarity on where exactly the state stands."The meeting was attended by education ministers of Assam, Gujarat, Delhi, and some council members.Furthermore, Javadekar stressed on the importance of rationalising the curriculum."Curriculum rationalisation needs to be done for holistic learning and for that curriculum overload will be reduced by some percentage this year, and some more in the next, by 2021 we will have reduced the curriculum by 50 per cent," he said.He also informed that more NCERT books will be published this year."Two crore books were published two years ago, last year six .

HRD starts 70-point grading index to assess state school edu

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has introduced a 70-point grading index to assess the quality of school education offered by states. "We have decided that a state performance grading will be done wherein the states will be marked out of 1,000 scores on 70 parameters," HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters here. This will give the correct picture of where every state stands. There will be a fair competition to improve each other's performances, he said. The ministry has also decided to print more books of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) as it said there were only 2 crore books two years ago. "This year, our target is to print 6 crore books. If parents want to send their wards to private schools, they have the right to get cheaper and quality books," Javadekar said. Teacher booked for misbehaving with minor girl student

A government school teacher has been booked for misbehaving with a female student when she was sitting alone in a classroom.According to Circle Inspector of Manghalhat police station in Hyderabad a complaint from a minor girl, who is studying ninth standard in Government high school located in the limits of Manghalhat police station, was received.The minor girl stated that a teacher by name Sanjeev Rao in the school has misbehaved with her when she was sitting in the classroom alone.A case has been registered under sections 354 D of IPC, Section 9 F and 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act."We have sent the minor girl to Bharosa centre to record her statement and for counselling.
