Plans to bring entrepreneurship curriculum in Delhi govt-run schools: Dy CM
The Delhi government-run schools may soon have entrepreneurship curriculum for students of class 9 to 12, according to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. He said the initiative is aimed at making the students future ready. "We plan to introduce entrepreneurship curriculum in our schools for class 9 to 12 students. Entrepreneurship does not necessarily means business, we plan to develop life skills, behavioural skills and to impart proper etiquettes into the minds of children in order to decondition them and make them future ready," Sisodia, who is also Delhi's Education Minister, said. Be job providers not job seekers: Sisodia tells students
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia Thursday urged the students to be job providers and not job seekers. He was speaking at the fifth convocation of the Delhi Technological University here during which a total of 2099 degrees were conferred. Two Chancellors medals and 43 Vice Chancellor medals were also awarded at the event. "The nation expects you to be job providers, that's the greatest need of the country today," Sisodia said, while addressing the students here. He stressed that top brass institutes like IITs, DTUs should take a resolution that the students passing out will majorly be job providers, not job seekers. JNUSU protests over closure of 24/7 varsity library
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) protested at the varsity's library on Wednesday against the closure of the 24/7 library. The students' union had accused the varsity administration of cutting down library funds from Rs 8 crore to Rs 1.7 crore, a charge denied by the administration. The JNUSU staged a protest at the library, alleging that the students were not being allowed to take books outside the library. "JRF-NET (junior research fellowship-National Eligibility Test) exam is around the corner and the insensitivity of the librarian and the administration shows in the way they have reduced library budget by 80 per cent, and is continuously mismanaging and diverting funds for personal luxury," the JNUSU said. Pune school lifts national crossword competition trophy; Delhi on second spot
DAV Public School from Pune Wednesday won a national inter-school crossword competition that spread over 41 cities in the last six months, officials said. The contest was inaugurated in July by Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik, who was then the governor of Bihar. Malik had said that navigating through everyday life is like solving a crossword puzzle and exhorted students to develop critical thinking. "Omkar Joshi and Arghish Akolkar of DAV Public School, Pune lifted the National Crossword Champion trophy at the end of the three-day Grand Finale of the inter-school CCCC Cryptic Crossword Contest 2018," the organisers said in a statement. Centre releases Rs 260 cr for five new medical colleges in J-K
The Centre Wednesday released Rs 260 crore to the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education department for five new medical colleges being set up in as many districts of the state. With the latest release of funds by the Centre, the cumulative release of central share for these colleges at Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Kathua and Rajouri, till date has reached Rs 765 crore, Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo said. He said the Union ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned five new medical colleges in the sate at a cost of Rs 189 crore each -- out of which Rs 139 crore is for civil works and Rs 50 crore for machinery and equipment. The civil works in all these medical colleges are at different levels of progress and have been expedited of late to put the requisite infrastructure in place at the earliest, he said. Nitish inaugurates new building of Kalam Agriculture College
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Wednesday inaugurated the newly built administrative building of Dr Kalam Agriculture College in Kishanganj district, an official release said. After inaugurating the new building, he visited the digital classroom, agriculture entomology, insects museum and computer lab of the college located at Arrabari in Pothia block of the district, it said. Kumar asked officials to install solar plates on the roof top of all the buildings of the college which would help generate power in meeting its energy requirement. PSUs to identify annual themes for CSR; focus on aspirational districts
Public sector units (PSUs) will now identify central themes for corporate social responsibility activities every year, with 60 per cent of their CSR expenditure dedicated to the thematic programmes, as per new guidelines issued by Department of Public Enterprises. The norms call for aspirational districts to be accorded preference by central public sector enterprises (CPSE) for their CSR activities. The Niti Aayog has identified 112 aspirational districts. "For the current year 2018-19, school education and healthcare may be taken up as the theme for focused intervention," the guidelines said. "The Competent Authority has further entrusted to Niti Aayog the responsibility to pilot the programme," they added. The CPSE undertaking CSR activity in aspirational districts would designate a senior level functionary as nodal officer to liaise closely with the district administration of concerned aspirational district.
CBI books Sainik School, Tilaiya officials in question paper leak case
The CBI has booked the then principal, vice principal and administrative officer of prestigious Sainik School, Tilaiya for alleged leak of All India Sainik School Examination 2018 question papers, officials said Wednesday. The then principal Col Nabarun Roy, vice principal Sanjay Kumar and administrative officer Lt Col Shishir Kumar along with teachers Dhananjay Kumar and Manoranjan Pathak besides officer superintendent V K Trivedi were named in an FIR by the CBI. It is alleged that these officials entered into a criminal conspiracy and indulged in corrupt activities and cheated the Sainik School Society. Delhi govt to introduce 'cleanliness curriculum' in schools
The Delhi government will be developing a curriculum to inculcate habits of cleanliness and hygiene among school students, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced Wednesday. The government has sought suggestions from teachers and principals of government as well as private schools in the national capital to prepare the 'cleanliness curriculum'. "While students are contributors of garbage in schools they have no role in cleaning it or maintaining the cleanliness. We want that students should develop these habits and take responsibility of cleanliness in schools," Sisodia said at an award function for clean schools. 24-hour Dima Hasao bandh hits normal life
Normal life in central Assam's Dima Hasao district was hit on Wednesday in a 24-hour shutdown by various student organisations demanding autonomous state status, official sources said. The shutdown from 5 am was called to press for autonomous state under Article 244 (A) and withdrawal of Clause 8 of BLT Accord that grants ST (Hill) status to Bodos living in Assam's two hill districts of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong. The shutdown has been called by Dimasa Students' Union, Kuki Students' Organisation, Hmar Students Association and Karbi Students' Association among others. The bandh is in response to a 48-hour bandh called by various organisations on December 12 and 13 in the two hill districts.
