Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said on Wednesday that major education sector reforms brought by her government were behind enhanced enrolment in public schools and improved results. Speaking at a function here on the occasion of Teachers' Day here, she said the condition of the education sector was poor when her government was formed. "When we took over the reins, the state was on the 26th position in the country in education, but today, the state stands at number 2," Raje said in the function at Amroodon Ka Bagh near the Assembly building. 15 Nagaland teachers honoured

Altogether 15 teachers, including five women, were honoured with the State Teachers' Award during the Teachers' Day celebration in Nagaland. 31 teachers honoured in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya honoured 31 teachers of the state here Wednesday on the occasion of Teachers' Day asking them to teach students to dream big. "You should teach students to dream big and help them to achieve their goal in life. The credit for the success of a student goes as much to him as to his teachers," she said after conferring 31 teachers of government schools with the Governor's Teachers Award at a function. She also asked the teachers to pay attention to every child and give them extra classes if necessary so that they do not need tuitions. Cameroon army kills three as tensions mar return to school

Cameroon's army on Wednesday said it had killed three people in the capital of the country's English-speaking North West region on the same day that the education minister visited the area, with tensions spiking as children return to school. Separatists in the region say the education system marginalises anglophone pupils and have decreed a boycott of schools in the areas they lay claim to. Not enough qualified teachers in UP: Adityanath

On Teachers' Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lamented the lack of qualified educators in Uttar Pradesh and said it was not a shortcoming of his government but the education system, which has failed to produce excellent teachers. Adityanath said a large number of educated people are still unemployed. "We have a large number of educated unemployed persons. The UP government started the recruitment procedure for 68,500 primary school teachers. For this, 1.05 lakh applications were received, but 41,556 candidates could clear the examination," he said at a programme to mark Teachers' Day in Lucknow. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday made a strong pitch for imparting school education in mother tongue throughout the country. He also said history books should have chapters on local personalities and eminent Indians who have made the country proud through their deeds. Dehradun: Here's why children come to this police station

The police station at Dehradun's Prem Nagar is different. What makes it unusual is, it houses a school for underprivileged kids.The learning centre started with just a handful of kids but over the time it has become a success story of the region and now runs in two shifts with 51 students. Teachers' Day gift: UP teachers to get 7th pay panel scale

As a gift on the occasion of Teachers' Day, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give 7th pay commission pay scale to teachers and professors of state colleges and universities. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the implementation of the seventh pay scale at a meeting of the state cabinet chaired by him Tuesday. The decision was taken in the light of revision of pay scales of Central Government employees on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission. According to an official spokesman, the government will bear financial burden of Rs 921.54 crore for this hike and the state will bear 50 per cent of the burden. The new pay scale to the state and related cadre teachers will come into force from January 1, 2016. It will cover 18 state varsities, which also includes one law university, one deemed and an open university. The spokesman said the registrar, financial officer, controller of examination, pro VC and VC will not be covered under this.

Millennials ditching corporate jobs for teaching: Study

Millennials in India are increasingly saying goodbye to their high-flying corporate jobs and taking the teaching route to utilise their skills and impart knowledge to young students, a study has found. The study conducted by Bangaluru-based education technology startup, Cuemath, on over 3,000 teachers reveals that there has been an upswing in the number of millennials opting for a career as an educator, especially by the workforce in corporate jobs. Millennials are those born after 1980 and the first generation to come of age in the new millennium. According to the analysis, 50 per cent of the teachers come from experience in a corporate job. The data further reveals that over 58 per cent of teachers fall in the 20-35 year age bracket, a drastic change from the scenario a decade ago. Schools cannot deny admission for lack of Aadhaar: UIDAI

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has asserted that schools cannot refuse admission to students for lack of Aadhaar, and termed denial on such grounds as "invalid". It has also exhorted schools to co-ordinate with local banks, post offices, state education department and district administration, to facilitate special camps in their premises for Aadhaar enrolment and updation. According to an official circular addressed to the Chief Secretaries of States, the UIDAI has said that it is aware of instances where some schools are refusing admission in absence of Aadhaar. "It must be ensured that no children are deprived/denied of their due benefits or rights for want of Aadhaar," said the circular seen by PTI. Due to unavailability of a secondary school in Mehgaon area of Madhya Pradesh's Harda district, around two dozen children of the village are forced to walk through a forested area and cross the Ganjal river to reach a school in Bori."There are 232 students in the school.
