Centre has denied me permission to speak at edu event in Moscow: Sisodia

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today alleged he has been denied permission by the Centre to speak at the World Education Conference in Moscow. Sisodia said he has been invited at the event to speak about the reforms brought by his government in the education sector in Delhi. "I was invited to speak about Delhi Education reforms at World Education Conference, Moscow. I was supposed to leave tonight but it's unfortunate that Govt of India has not given permission. It's pending 'under process' for last 10 days (sic)," The AAP leader tweeted today. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not want the Delhi government's work to reach an international platform. "Delhi's education reforms hv been getting international press coverage in past few months. It's unfortunate that PM Modi doesn't want this to reach int. platforms. Sir! Delhi is also part of India! If our schools get international recognition, it's a matter of pride for India (sic)," he said in another tweet.

Time to teach Indian classical dance forms in Chinese universities: Leela Samson

With Indian classical dance forms attracting a large number of youngsters in China, the time is ripe to introduce them in top Chinese universities and cultural centres, Bharatanatyam exponent Leela Samson has said. Samson, 67, who has a big following of Chinese students, is in Beijing this week where she along with popular Chinese Bharatanatyam dancer Jin Shan Shan trains batches of students, mostly girls around the age of 14 years. Jin, a regular performer at the Indian Embassy events and frequent traveller to India, teaches about 100 students, including those at the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. The Indian Embassy itself has a cultural centre where Indian music and dance forms are taught. "I have been coming to China for many years to perform and to teach. Each time, I am amazed at the level of interests among the youths here to learn Indian classical dance and music forms," Samson told PTI. Kerala floods: CBSE to provide digital certificates to students

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced to provide digital mark sheets, migration certificates and pass certificates to the students from CBSE affiliated schools in Kerala as they might have lost them in the recent floods."Over 1,300 schools are affiliated to the CBSE in Kerala. Board exam academic documents are crucial for admission for higher studies and employment etc. CBSE, in technical collaboration with NeGD, developed its own and first of its kind digital academic repository called 'Parinam Manjusha'," read a statement from CBSE.This academic repository has been integrated with DigiLocker - a service operated by the government that enables citizens to store certain official documents on the cloud."The digital academic documents being provided through Parinam Manjusha/DigiLocker are digitally signed using digital signature of Controller of Examinations of CBSE which make them legally valid digital document as per the IT Act. U'khand Cabinet clears proposal to set up panel on relocation of Gujjars from Corbett

The Uttarakhand Cabinet today decided to constitute a committee for relocating of Gujjar families from the Corbett Tiger Reserve and shutdown schools which have less than 10 students. It also decided to launch a medical insurance scheme named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee providing an annual coverage of Rs 5 lakh to every family. The proposals were cleared by the state cabinet at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, cabinet minister and spokesman of the government Madan Kaushik told reporters. It was decided that a committee headed by the forest minister will be constituted to implement an order of the Uttarakhand High Court to relocate the Gujjar families living in the Corbett Tiger Reserve to somewhere else, Kaushik said. The agriculture minister and the chief secretary will be the members of the panel, he added. Kaushik said the high court will also be informed about the formation of the committee. Nine Gujjar families are at present living .

Gurukul staffers, students booked for sodomy in Rohtak

Around five students of a gurukul at Rohtak's Ladhot village were allegedly sodomised by their seniors and some staff members for the past few months, police said today. The victims, studying in class 5 and class 6, told their family members about the crime yesterday, the police said, adding an FIR has been registered. The accused had threatened them with dire consequences if they reported the matter, the police said. A case has been registered against some senior students and staff of the gurukul under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act, they said, adding police is investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the district Child Welfare Committee issued a notice to the institute's management seeking their response on the allegations made by the students.

UGC to withdraw grants of DU colleges running without principals

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a warning to 21 colleges under the Delhi University, saying their financial grants will be withheld if they do not appoint full-time principals. Over 22 out of 77 colleges in the Delhi University are running without a permanent principal, irking the teachers' association of the university which has been demanding streamlining of the appointment process. "As per the latest available update, it has been noticed that many colleges have not complied with the directives of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) or UGC to appoint regular principals. The colleges are once again requested to expedite the process of selection of a full-time regular principal in your college. "Further, they are hereby requested to inform the date of interview for the post of the Principal latest by August 31 failing which the UGC will be constrained to withhold the release of further grants," UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain told reporters. Land allotted for rebuilding minority school demolished 40 yrs ago: HC told

The Delhi High Court was today informed by the DDA that it has allotted land to the AAP government for constructing building for a minority school which has been functioning from tents since its demolition over 40 years ago during the Emergency. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V K Rao was told that a plot of 4,000 square metres has been allotted by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for the construction of the school in Old Delhi. It noted that the competent authority had in principle granted approval for constructing the secondary school at Eidgah at Quresh Nagar in the walled city. The bench disposed of the petition after the petitioner expressed satisfaction over the development. The court had last year asked the Delhi government and the authorities concerned to explore the possibility of allotting land for the minority school. University Grants Commission (UGC) Secretary Professor Rajnish Jain has issued a warning to 21 colleges under Delhi University saying their financial grants will be withheld if they do not appoint full-time Principals."As per the latest available update, it has been noticed that many colleges have not complied with the directives of MHRD/UGC to appoint regular Principals. In most of the colleges, interviews have not been held at the respective Governing Bodies. Scotland university to hand out pronoun badges for gender equality

One of Scotland's leading universities is set to hand out pronoun badges to freshers joining in a new term so they know whether to refer to each other as "he", "she" or "they". Universities taking steps against junk food in campuses

Four days after the University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all higher educational institutions to ban sale of junk food on their campuses, officials of city varsities have said they are taking steps to that direction. The Vice chancellor of Calcutta University Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee told PTI "there is no sale of food items which can be categorised as junk food within the varsity campus. Still we are making everybody, including affiliated colleges, aware of the UGC directive." She said, "we have also instructed the canteens of the university and affiliated colleges to maintain hygiene norms while cooking items." DUSU elections scheduled for Sept 12

Elections for the office bearers of Delhi University's Student Union (DUSU) will be held on September 12, said an official statement from the institution.As per the notification issued by the Registrar of the University, the last date for submission of nomination papers, along with demand draft of Rs.500 and affidavit is September 4. Scrutiny of nomination papers and publication of the list of duly nominated candidates will also be done on the same day, the University said.Furthermore, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is September 5, and the final list of candidates will be published on the same day.However, the date of counting of votes and declaration of results has not been announced.

Govt school teacher arrested for sexually abusing student in Delhi

A 52-year-old teacher of a government school in north Delhi's Burari was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing his 15-year-old student, police said today. The incident came to light after a video of the act was forwarded by the teacher to an acquaintance who made it viral with an intention to blackmail the accused, a senior police officer said. The incident came to light yesterday following which the teacher was arrested, the officer said, adding it was suspected that the video was shot in June. The police were probing whether the accused had abused other students and how long he had been abusing the victim. The victim stays with his family in northwest Delhi's Swaroop Nagar. The parents of other students staged a protest outside the school today demanding strict action against the teacher. Earlier this month, an electrician was arrested for allegedly raping a Class 2 student in a New Delhi Municipal Council School.

Three teachers booked for beating class 11 student in UP

A class 11 student of a school in Gorakhpur's Buxipur was allegedly beaten up by his class teacher and two other teachers, following which the accused were booked, police said today. A case was registered against three teachers and one unidentified person in this connection, SHO Girijesh Tiwari said, adding that a probe was underway. The student's father had lodged a complaint after which the case was filed, though no arrest has been made so far, he said. As per reports, class teacher Vivekanand Tripathi beat the 15-year-old student allegedly because he expressed ignorance about the donation for flood-hit Kerala. Annoyed over this, the teacher started beating him and also called two other teachers, Vivek Singh and Sandeep Chaterji, who beat up the student. "My son was badly beaten by the school teachers.
