NCP MP Majeed Memon wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today demanding five per cent quota for Muslims in education. A survey by Women & Child Welfare and Mission Shakti (W&CD-MS) department has claimed that 55,868 girls in the age group of 11-14 years were out of school in Odisha but the School and Mass Education minister Badri Narayan Patra says the number was 1,060. Patra rejected the survey figure of the W&CD-MS department and said as per the survey done by his department the number of girls out of school was 1,060. "The OPEPA (Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority) in 2017 had conducted a survey. It showed that 1,060 adolescent girls in the age group of 11-14 years were out of school in the state," Patra told reporters here yesterday. The baseline survey of the W&CD-MS department conducted by the field functionaries this year claimed that there 55,868 girls were out of school. Over 9 per cent students of the civic-run schools in the megapolis Mumbai want to take up farming as a profession, followed by defence and police services, says a report of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The result of the survey, conducted by the BMC, is surprising, as such a percentage of students in the country's financial capital have shown inclination towards the farming profession, a senior civic official said. Teachers and parents should not "label" students on the basis of their performance or compare their grades with those of others, the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has said. "Evaluation often is thought as labelling or comparing performance of children against one another through marks, grades or any other means by pointing out their weaknesses, which only humiliates them and lowers their self-esteem," the NCERT said in fresh guidelines for Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). "Comparing the performance of a child with her/his previous performance, instead of comparing it with that of her/his peers, can be used to identify her/his learning and developmental needs (and) to provide the required support without any humiliation. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Tuesday awarded four years' imprisonment to each to the four accused in the Vyapam scam.The scam is an admission and recruitment fraudulent scheme, beginning in 1995, involving politicians, senior officials and businessmen in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB).The scam involved 13 different examinations, conducted by Vyapam, for selection of medical students and state government employees, including food inspectors, transport constables, police personnel, school teachers, dairy supply officers and forest guards.The examinations were taken by around 3.2 million students.A number of people connected to the scam and its investigation reportedly died during the course of the investigation.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar assured today the state's college and university staff that they may soon get emoluments at par with the Seventh Pay Commission. Uttar Pradesh tops the list of states and union territories with maximum number of vacant posts at the elementary level while Jammu and Kashmir tops the list with the maximum number of vacancies at the secondary level, according to data compiled till March 31, 2017. Prohibitory order was clamped in nine villages in Mizoram's five districts as teachers and students of lump sum grants schools resorted to road blockade in their respective areas today demanding upgradation of their institutions to grant-in-aid schools, officials said. An executive order prohibiting assembly of more than five persons under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) was clamped in nine villages in five districts - Aizawl, Lunglei, Mamit, Serchhip and Champhai, an official statement said. The decision to impose prohibitory order was taken at the meeting of senior officials of the state School Education, Home and Finance departments which was convened by acting chief minister R Lalzirliana.
