PM-eBus Sewa to act as catalyst for EV promotion across urban centres: SMEV

The PM-eBus Sewa will act as a catalyst for promotion of electric vehicles across urban centres to drive the penetration of electric mobility, Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) said on Thursday. "Buses being a pivotal source of urban pollution, the decision will help substantially reduce pollution levels and consequential carbon emissions," SMEV Director General Sohinder Gill said in a statement. "Moreover, this strategic manoeuvre is set to act as a catalyst for the promotion of electric vehicles across diverse urban centres, enabling a more extensive embrace of electric mobility," he said. The initiative holds the potential to generate direct employment opportunities and help upskilling existing resources, he said, adding that the scheme will also introduce economies of scale for the procurement of electric buses. Tata Motors delivers prototype of indigenously-developed e-bus to BMTC

Tata Motors on Friday delivered a prototype of its indigenously-developed electric bus to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has placed an order for 921 advanced e-buses with the auto major, Tata Motors said in a statement. As part of the larger order signed between TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd -- a wholly-owed subsidiary of Tata Motors -- and BMTC, the company will supply, operate and maintain 921 units of 12-metre low-floor electric buses for 12 years, the statement said. The bus is equipped with modern features, providing commuters a hassle-free travel experience, Asim Kumar Mukhopadhyay, managing director and chief executive officer at TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited, said. To date, Tata Motors said it has supplied over 900 e-buses across multiple cities in the country.

Huge opportunity in electric tractors, trucks: Tube Investments of India

Engineering company Tube Investments of India Ltd is looking to tap a huge opportunity for electric tractors in agriculture and e-trucks in the commercial vehicles as it eyes a larger presence in the electric vehicle segment. The company, part of the diversified conglomerate Murugappa Group, is currently engaged in the manufacturing of e-tractors at its facility in Apex Park in Chennai and for e-trucks in Manesar in Haryana, Executive Chairman M A M Arunachalam said. "The automotive sector in India is shifting towards sustainable mobility. BillionElectric raises $10 mn in seed fund round, launches e-MaaS platform

E-Maas (electric mobility as-a-service) platform BillionElectric on Tuesday announced its entry into the domestic market and said it has secured USD 10 million in a seed round of funding. The capital infusion, which is in the form of equity and lease funding, will be strategically allocated for the deployment of electric tarmac buses at the Bengaluru international airport; and development of a mid-mile heavy EV trucks platform, the company said in a statement. Electric bus of BEST catches fire while parked in Mumbai depot: Official

An electric air-conditioned bus of the civic-run Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) caught fire while parked in a depot in suburban Malvani on Friday afternoon, an official said. Nobody was injured in the incident. The fire started around 2.55 pm on the rooftop of the single decker e-bus manufactured by Tata Motors, said a BEST spokesperson. "The fire brigade was called immediately and the fire was doused," he added. The bus, hired from a private contractor, had completed a 53 km run since Friday morning on route no 359 and arrived at the depot around 1 pm, the spokesperson said. " Officials are investigating the cause of the fire," he added. A civic official said the fire started in the AC unit installed on the roof of the bus. As the bus was empty, nobody was injured, he added.

Olectra Greentech net profit rises 52% to Rs 27 cr in March quarter

Electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech posted a 52 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 27.01 crore in the March quarter, mainly on the back of higher revenues. "The consolidated net profit for Q4 FY23 (January to March 2023) was Rs 27.01 crore, as compared to a net profit of Rs 17.77 crore in Q4 FY22 (January to March 2022)," a company statement said on Friday. Its consolidated revenue for the quarter stood at Rs 375.91 crore, up 39 per cent year-on-year, from Rs 271.3 crore in same period a year ago. The consolidated net profit for FY23 was up 86 per cent Rs 65.59 crore as against Rs 35.35 crore in FY22. For FY23, the consolidated revenue increased 84 per cent to stand at Rs 1,090.76 crore as compared with Rs 593.26 crore in the year-ago period. Delhi govt to add 100 electric buses to DTC fleet by April first week

The Delhi Transport Corporation is likely to add 100 more electric buses to its fleet by March-end or the first week of April, officials said on Sunday. The new additions will take the Delhi Transport Corporation's (DTC) electric bus fleet to 400. Delhi Transport Commissioner Ashish Kundra recently visited Tata Motors' Lucknow plant to inspect the buses. Last month, DTC MD Shilpa Shinde visited Karnataka to oversee the prototype models. "We will get 100 electric buses by March-end or the first week of April. After that, 200-250 buses will arrive every month. "A DTC team had gone to Karnataka to see the prototype. It has been cleared and now we have come to the manufacturing plant in Lucknow for a formal inspection of the buses," said an official. Equipped with security features such as CCTV cameras and panic buttons, these buses will hit the national capital's roads in the next three to four weeks following the configuration and registration process, he added.
