Govt to impose stricter rules on electric construction vehicles from Oct 1

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has proposed new stricter safety standards for electric powertrain construction equipment vehicles including dumpers and excavators from October 1, 2024. The ministry in a draft notification has proposed an amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 with an aim to push electric vehicles (EV) across various sectors. "On and after (1st October 2024), construction equipment vehicles fitted with electric power train shall meet requirements as specified in AIS-174, till the corresponding BIS specifications are notified under the Bureau of Indian Standard Act, 2016," the draft rule said. Electric and hybrid powertrain are being used in construction equipment vehicles. According to the notification, the objections or suggestions which may be received from any person in respect of the said draft rules before the expiry of the aforesaid period will be considered by the central government.

Electric mobility right step in right direction for country: M&M CEO

Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday came out strongly in support of electric mobility terming it a right step in the right direction for the country. The Mumbai-based auto major noted that supporting electric mobility is in the best interest of the nation. "The right direction for the country is EV focus and we believe that is what the government should support," Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Executive Director and CEO for auto and farm director Rajesh Jejurikar told reporters here. He was responding to a query regarding the company's stand on the Uttar Pradesh government announcing registration waivers for hybrid vehicles. EV maker Euler Motors unveils Rs 100 cr mfg, R&D facility in Haryana

Electric commercial vehicle manufacturer Euler Motors on Tuesday unveiled its manufacturing and R&D facility at Palwal in Haryana, which has been set up with an investment of Rs 100 crore to cater to the rising demand. Spanning 5 lakh square feet, the plant has the capacity to produce 36,000 vehicles per annum and will serve as Euler Motors' national manufacturing hub, catering to the rising demand for its three-wheeler, the company said. Euler Motors said it plans to expand footprint to 40 cities by FY25 from 26 cities now. "Our new factory represents a significant leap in manufacturing commercial 3-wheeler EVs. Gentari joins hands with Amazon India to achieve target of 10K EVs by 2025

Amazon India on Monday said that it has formed a strategic partnership with electric mobility firm Gentari for its EV deployment programme as it targets a fleet of 10,000 electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries by 2025. Under the collaboration, Gentari Green Mobility Business will procure and deploy electric vehicles for the company in the next three years besides providing comprehensive fleet management services to the delivery service partners (DSPs) to ensure the seamless operation and upkeep of the EV fleet, Amazon India said. The partnership will provide Delivery Service Providers (DSPs) access to more electric three-wheelers for Amazon deliveries, it added.
