President to launch EV yatra portal, mobile app on Energy Conservation Day

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to launch an EV yatra portal and a mobile application, which will facilitate in-vehicle navigation to the nearest public EV charger, on Wednesday, a release said. The President will also felicitate the winners of National Energy Conservation Awards and National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards at event to mark the National Energy Conservation Day, the Power Ministry said in the release on Tuesday. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has developed a mobile application to facilitate in-vehicle navigation to the nearest public EV charger, and a website to disseminate information on various central and state-level initiatives to promote e-mobility in the country. BEE has also developed a web-portal to enable charging point operators (CPOs) to register their charging details securely into the National Online Database. 'Western, central UP to be developed as hub for EVs, ancillary industries'

With a view to make Uttar Pradesh a USD 1 trillion economy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to transform western and central regions of the state into a hub for auto and electric vehicle industries, an official release said here. The chief minister has told officials that the auto and electric vehicle industries in western and central Uttar Pradesh already have ample resources and they just need to be pushed further because the demand for electric vehicles is growing, it added. He said such a move will generate employment on a large scale. In the auto industry, the Gross State Value Addition (GSVA) of Uttar Pradesh was USD 1.5 billion in 2019, which can be increased to USD 5 billion in the next five years. In western and central Uttar Pradesh, 9,000-10,000 acres of land will be needed for the development of the industry and the government will spend USD 19-20 billion on this, the release added. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday inaugurated 11 high-tech low cost electric charging stations in different parts of the city, taking yet another step towards pushing the residents to shift to electric vehicles (EVs). The chief minister launched these charging stations as part of a larger project to set up 100 charging stations across the national capital in the next two months. "Through these 11 electric charging stations, Delhi has given the world the most affordable model of its kind. Driving an EV after charging them here would be extremely cheap it would barely cost 7 paise/km for two wheelers, 8 paise/km for three wheelers and 33 paise/km for four wheelers," he said. LG, Honda to set up $4.4-bn joint venture in US to make EV batteries

Major South Korean battery maker LG and Japanese automaker Honda are investing USD 4.4 billion in a joint venture in the United States to produce batteries for Honda electric vehicles in the North American market, the two companies said on Monday. The plant's site is still undecided, but construction will begin in early 2023, with mass production of advanced lithium-ion battery cells to start by the end of 2025, they said. The joint venture is to be set up this year, with the closing of the deal subject to regulatory approval.
