Apple vendors likely to double employment base in India: Report

iPhone maker Apple is likely to double the employment base at its contract manufacturers in India to around 2 lakh soon, according to government sources. As per the sources, Apple CEO Tim Cook has sought government support to widen its components supplier base in India. "Apple has created 1 lakh employment in India. Based on the discussions, we feel that they will double employment base very soon," a government source said. Cook has long-term policy stability to foster investments in the country, as per the source. "He has also asked support to skill Indian manpower to suit the company's requirement," one of the sources said. The government has offered Apple to define skill set, and it will support them in facilitating it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday the "new India" is moving ahead with new policies and strategies, and his government is working proactively in matters of technology and infrastructure, shunning the "reactive approach" of the past. PM to distribute 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted employees

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute about 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted employees on April 13 via video conferencing and also address them on the occasion, according to a statement issued by his office on Tuesday. The programme is part of the 'Rozgar Mela' drive, under which 10 lakh people are expected to be given jobs. The statement said it was a step towards fulfilment of the prime minister's commitment to accord the highest priority to employment generation. "The Rozgar Mela is expected to act as a catalyst in further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth for their empowerment and participation in national development," it added. Job aspirants from across country form collective for 'right to employment'

More than a hundred organisations including job aspirants' collectives have joined hands to form a youth alliance named 'Sanyukt Yuva Morcha' with an aim to shape a "nationwide youth movement" for employment, a member of the group said on Tuesday. The group said it will launch campaigns for a 'right to employment' as a legal guarantee for every adult, and will also fight for a basic minimum wage. The group will also demand filling up of all vacant posts in the public sector in a "fair and time bound manner." Employment generation coupled with improving employability is the priority of the government, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday. He said the government of India has taken various steps to deal with the problem of unemployment in recent times. "The government of India has announced the Aatmanirbhar Bharat package to provide stimulus to businesses and mitigate the adverse impact of COVID-19. Under this package, the government is providing fiscal stimulus of more than Rs 27 lakh crore," Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel, said. This package comprises various long-term schemes, programmes and policies for making the country self-reliant and to create employment opportunities, he said in a written reply in Lok Sabha. As on January 25, 2023, benefits have been provided to 60.26 lakh beneficiaries, the minister said. Over 979,000 vacant posts in govt, maximum of 293,000 in railways: Centre

Over 9.79 lakh vacancies exist in different central government departments, including a highest of 2.93 lakh in railways, as on March 1, 2021, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said on Wednesday. He said the occurrence and filling up of vacancies is a continuous process, as per the requirement of various ministries, departments and organisations of the Central government. "Government has already issued instructions to all ministries/departments for timely filling up of the unfilled posts. Rozgar melas being organised by government of India are expected to act as catalyst in further employment generation," he said in a written reply. Besides railways, there were 2.64 lakh vacant posts in defence (civil), 1.43 lakh in home, 90,050 in posts, 80,243 in revenue, 25,934 in Indian audit and accounts department, and 9,460 in atomic energy department among others, Singh said, citing the annual report of the department of expenditure.

Rural Development Ministry to ink pact for youth training, employment

The Ministry of Rural Development is signing an agreement with 19 "Captive Employers" for providing jobs to 31,067 rural youths under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), according to an official statement issued on Monday. The ministry will provide these employers the target to train and provide gainful employment to rural youth, with a minimum salary of Rs 10,000 per month for the minimum period of six months. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed on Tuesday in the presence of Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh. The minister will also distribute appointment letters to some candidates who received similar training under the DDU-GKY and are placed with captive employers, according to the statement issued by the Ministry of Rural Development. 79% of employers keen to increase their apprentices intake in Jan-Mar qtr

Around 79 per cent of employers polled are keen to increase their apprentice pool in the last quarter of this financial year in order to develop a strong talent pipeline, a report said on Monday. Teamlease's Apprenticeship Outlook Report for Q4 2022 (January to March 2023) indicates that 79 per cent of employers are foreseeing to increase their apprentice intake in the fourth quarter 2022 (JanuaryMarch 2023). Interestingly, the report revealed that more employers (about 37 per cent) are willing to increase their intake due to the fact that apprentices are real-time skilled talent available in the market. Additionally, 23 per cent of employers feel that apprentices also help unlock business growth opportunities, the report added.
