Prepare plan for 100% plastic waste recycling: Delhi environment dept

The Delhi Environment Department has asked all municipal bodies to immediately prepare a time-bound action plan to achieve 100 per cent segregation, recycling and processing of plastic waste. The department has also asked the urban local bodies (ULBs) to develop a 'plastic waste monitoring dashboard' on their websites having information about daily generation, collection, segregation, recycling, processing and disposal to landfills by June 30. Every ULB has been directed to constitute a 'Plastic Waste Task Force' headed by their commissioner, and a 'Plastic Waste Management Cell' to closely monitor compliance of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, and single-use plastics. These decisions were taken at the first meeting of the Special Task Force on Plastic Waste Management Rules held on June 8, according to the minutes of the meeting. Coal India alive, sensitive to need of environmental protection: Chairman

Coal India chief Pramod Agrawal has said that the coal behemoth is alive and sensitive to the need of environmental protection and the PSU pursues sustainable mining practises persistently. The statement assumes significance especially when when there has been concerns about the global climate change on account of burning of fossil fuels, including coal, which releases green gases into the atmosphere. "Restoration of ecosystem, effective bio-reclamation, effective utilisation of water are followed with equal fervour and importance as production," Agrawal said in a communication. Coal India, he said, has planted close to 2 million saplings during FY'21 over an area of 862 hectares exceeding the target by 16 per cent.
