FPIs put Rs 7.9K cr in equities in July, investment over Rs 1 trn in 2024

Foreign investors infused over Rs 7,900 crore in Indian equities in the first week of the month amid a healthy economic and earnings growth momentum. With this, total FPI investment in equities reached Rs 1.16 lakh crore so far this year, data with the depositories showed. Going forward, the Union Budget and Q1 FY25 earnings could determine the sustainability of FPI flows, experts said. According to the data, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have made a net inflow of Rs 7,962 crore in equities so far this month (till July 5). This came following an inflow of Rs 26,565 crore in equities in June, driven by political stability and a sharp rebound in markets. Before that, FPIs withdrew Rs 25,586 crore in May on poll jitters and over Rs 8,700 crore in April on concerns over a tweak in India's tax treaty with Mauritius and a sustained rise in US bond yields. Raselle Capital VCC settles FPI violation case with Sebi, pays Rs 1.23 cr

Foreign portfolio investor Raselle Capital VCC has settled a case related to the alleged violation of FPI rules with capital markets regulator Sebi after paying Rs 1.23 crore as settlement charges. The order came after Raselle Capital proposed to settle the instant proceedings initiated against it without "admitting or denying the findings of facts and conclusions" of the law. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) initiated adjudication proceedings against the applicant (Raselle Capital VCC) for the alleged violations of Sebi's Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPI) rules and other market norms. Further, a show cause notice (SCN) dated December 18, 2023, was issued to the applicant by the markets watchdog for the alleged violations. Thereafter, the applicant filed a settlement application with the regulator in terms of the provisions of Sebi's (Settlement Proceedings) regulations to settle the matter. FPIs take out over Rs 25,586 cr from equities in May on poll jitters

Foreign investors pulled out a massive Rs 25,586 crore from Indian equities in May due to uncertainty surrounding the outcome of general election and outperformance of Chinese markets. This was way higher than a net outflow of over Rs 8,700 crore in April on concerns over a tweak in India's tax treaty with Mauritius and a sustained rise in US bond yields. Before that, FPIs made a net investment of Rs 35,098 crore in March and Rs 1,539 crore in February, while they took out Rs 25,743 crore in January, data with the depositories showed. Going ahead, election results, which will be out on June 4, could determine FPIs flows into Indian equities in the near future. Foreign funds avoid real estate; invest only $11 mn in Jan-Mar: Vestian

Institutional investments in real estate declined 55 per cent annually in January-March this year to USD 552 million as cautious foreign investors stayed away, pumping in only USD 11 mn, according to Vestian. The real estate sector had attracted USD 1,238.3 million (USD 1.23 billion) in the January-March period of 2023 calendar year, as per the report, which was released on Saturday. The latest data by global property consultant Vestian showed that the institutional inflow from foreign funds in the country's real estate plunged 99 per cent to just USD 11 million in the first quarter of 2024 from USD 791.4 million in the year-ago period. FPIs invest over Rs 38K cr in equities in Mar so far amid positive outlook

FPIs have shown a significant resurgence in their investment activity within the Indian equity markets this month, injecting over Rs 38,000 crore, mainly driven by favourable shifts in the global economic scenario and strong domestic macroeconomic outlook.
