Hewlett Packard plans to locally make 1 in 3 PCs sold in India by 2031

Personal computer major HP is planning to more than double production of its devices in India by 2031, a senior company official said on Thursday. While announcing the launch of new artificial intelligence-enabled laptops, HP India, senior director for personal systems Vineet Gehani told PTI that 13 per cent of total HP personal computers sold in India in 2025 will be manufactured locally. "Our commitment to India extends beyond innovation; it includes deep investment in local manufacturing. By the end of 2025, approximately 13 per cent of all HP PCs sold in India will be locally produced. And looking ahead, our vision is bold: by 2031, one in every three HP PCs sold in India will be Made in India," Gehani said. HP led the India PC market with 30.1 per cent market share in 2024 and 30 per cent share in the December quarter despite a decline of about 1 per cent in annual and 1.8 per cent in quarterly supplies, as per IDC estimates. HCLTech to acquire certain assets of HPE's Communication Tech for $225 mn

IT company HCLTech on Thursday said it will acquire certain assets of Hewlett Packard Enterprise's Communications Technology Group (CTG) for USD 225 million, about Rs 1,874 crore, in an all-cash deal. As part of this agreement, approximately 1,500 employees and 700 contractors with experience of engineering services for telecom industry in various countries -- including Spain, Italy, India, Japan, China, Americas and APAC region -- will be transferred to HCLTech, the companies said in a note. HCLTech in a regulatory filing mentioned that the deal is for "purchase of certain assets (CSS) of Communications Technology Group, a business division of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company. CSS delivers engineering services to leading global Communications Service Providers (CSPs) leveraging its intellectual properties in a global delivery model" for which "total purchase price is USD 225 million". HP plans to invest $500 mn in India to boost manufacturing capabilities

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) on Wednesday announced its plans to invest USD 500 million in India over the next five years to expand its operations, strengthen manufacturing capabilities and hire more people in the country. The company plans to increase its workforce in India by 20 per cent over the next three to five years. It will hire new engineering talent with expertise in areas of critical importance to customers such as artificial intelligence (AI) and networking, HPE said in a statement. It will also begin construction of a high-tech extension to its Mahadevapura campus in Bengaluru that will be able to house more than 10,000 employees, as well as state-of-the-art R&D facilities, it added. When complete, the 1.3-million sq ft campus will support a broad range of functions including R&D, engineering services, finance and sales. Hewlett-Packard bets on device-as-a-service for growth in business

Personal computer maker HP is banking on device-as-a-service (DaaS) solution for small and medium Indian businesses to boost growth. The company, which has a 29.5 per cent share in India's personal computer market (29.5 per cent), says this would help small enterprises reduce capital expenditure for their devices. The US-based hardware technology major started device-as-a-service, which includes computers, security, service and timely replacement of devices, globally two years ago. "We have started this in India about six months back. DaaS is like you buy this thing as an operating model and we provide managed services for enterprises," Ketan Patel, Senior Director, Personal Systems, HP India, told Business Standard, in an interview. Patel added that the company aims to be part of the digital transformation journey if the small enterprises and assist them in technology adoption through an "operating expenditure" model.
