Indian veg cuisine very impressive, says Michelin star French chef

India's range of meat and fish dishes is diverse, even bewildering with its overtones of hot, sour, sweet and tangy. But what really got two-Michelin-star chef Julien Royer's tastebuds kicking during his visit to India is the vegetarian food. The Singapore-based French chef was an absolute stranger to the flavours of India when he came to the country for the first time last year. Royer, who visited Mumbai then, was in Delhi on Thursday to expand his flavour horizons. "The spice, flavours and tastes were very impressive, specially the vegetarian dishes. I love the cuisine's diversity," Royer, who co-owns Odette, a modern French restaurant in Singapore, told PTI. Recalling his visit to Mumbai last year, he said he discovered the joys of multi-layered, multi-cultural desi cuisine and was left "impressed". He remembered being "blown away" by the exploding flavours of pani puri, pakoras and khandvi. He also expressed a newly discovered fondness for the tandoor. "Anything that's cooked in a

Another offshore casino anchors in Mandovi; ministers miffed

One more offshore casino vessel has anchored in the river Mandovi here, drawing criticism from two Goa ministers who hit out at the state's bureaucracy for giving permission for it. Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte Thursday took strong objection to the anchoring of yet another offshore casino vessel in the river. He said bureaucracy has allowed the offshore casino vessel, 'Big Daddy', to anchor in the Mandovi at a time when the state government is formulating a policy to shift all the ships laden with gaming machines out of the river. The coastal state already has six offshore casino vessels, and 'Big Daddy', operated by Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd, anchored in the river Wednesday. "I strongly oppose the entry of the Big Daddy in the Mandovi. We have almost finalized a policy to drive out the existing vessels and clear the River Mandovi and this is a sign of disappointment. "Bureaucracy rules the state while we watch in disappointment," Khaunte tweeted. Offshore casinos, a
