Security upped after bomb threat to Palaniswami's house
The security has been beefed up at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami's residence in Chennai after a bomb hoax call.As per the sources of Tamil Nadu police, a hoax bomb threat was also issued to actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth's residence.The police said that they received two phone calls from an unknown person on Saturday from the same number at around 1:50 pm and 6:27 pm. The person threatened to plant a bomb at the residence of the Chief Minister and Rajinikanth.After receiving the call, the police sent a bomb squad to Palaniswami and Rajinikanth's residence but no bomb was found there.After tracing the number, the police found that the call was made from Cuddalore district.An investigation into the matter is underway.

A 62-year-old man and his grandson drowned while bathing in the Cauvery river at Mayapuram in the district, police said today. The incident occurred last evening. The man saw his nine-year-old son struggling in the water and tried to save him, police said. On seeing this, his granddaughter raised an alarm and people nearby tried to save the two, but in vain. The foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of a memorial for the late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will be held here on May 7, the ruling AIADMK said today. AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and Co coordinator K Palaniswami said in a statement that the ceremony would be held at the mausoleum of the late Chief Minister at the Marina beach at 8.30 AM on Monday. The two leaders said Jayalalithaa had served as chief minister for 16 years, adding she had strived for the well-being of Tamils and the Tamil language. Jayalalithaa, admitted to a hospital in September 2016, breathed her last on December 5 that year.
