Italy calls for UK action over student mob attack death
Italy's foreign ministry has called for swift action over the "atrocious" mob attack of an Egyptian-Italian student in Britain, who died of her injuries last week. "In relation to the tragic case of compatriot Mariam Moustafa, brutally killed in Nottingham, we express our deep condolences and sympathy to her family, and additionally wish that those responsible for this atrocious crime are soon brought to justice," the foreign ministry said in a statement. Engineering student Moustafa, 18, was left in a coma after being attacked by a gang in the central England city of Nottingham on February 20. Police said she was "punched several times" in the street by a group of "threatening and abusive" women who then followed her onto a bus. 5 members of family drown in tank in Telangana
Five members of a family, including three children, allegedly drowned in a tank today during a visit to attend the marriage of one of their relatives in neighbouring Medak District, police said. 40-year old Mohammed Imtiyaz, hailing from Hyderabad, his 28-year old wife and three children - aged between 8 and 16 -- drowned in the tank in Ahmednagar Kannaram village, they said. The family members came to the village, located about 55 km from Hyderabad, to attend the wedding of a relative and went to the tank for a swim in the afternoon when the mishap occurred. The bodies of the couple and their daughter and two sons had been recovered and sent to a government hospital, police said adding further investigation was on.

Stephen Hawking may have left behind clues to detect other universes in the cosmos besides our own in a final research paper submitted just weeks before his death earlier this week, a media report said today. One of the world's best-known scientists, who died peacefully at his home in Cambridge aged 76 on March 14, set out the maths needed for a space probe to find experimental evidence for the existence of a "multiverse". Former fire services minister Pratim Chatterjee passes away
Former West Bengal minister Pratim Chatterjee , who held the Fire Services portfolio for 15 years till 2011, passed away today, family sources said. Chatterjee, president of Left Front constituent Marxist Forward Bloc, was suffering from breathing trouble and had undergone treatment at a private hospital in Salt Lake for a month and was released from there on March 14, his son in-law Dibyojyoti Ghosh said. "He complained of uneasiness this morning and was admitted to the same facility, where he died of a cardiac arrest at 10.15 am," Ghosh said. The former minister, a widower, is survived by a daughter, Kuheli Ghosh. Chatterjee, who represented Tarakeswar Assembly constituency, was the state Fire Services minister during the Left Front regime from 1996 to 2011. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was saddened at the passing away of Chatterjee. "Condolences to his family and well wishers," Banerjee said in a tweet.

Recommendations of eight state governments, seven governors, 14 Union ministers did not find any place in this year's Padma awards, which will be conferred on March 20 and April 2. According to Home Ministry documents, as many as 35,595 recommendations or nominations were received for the Padma awards 2018, which were announced on January 25, from state governments, governors, chief ministers, Union ministers, Union ministers of state, former Padma awardees, individuals and organisations.
