10 killed in Bihar as bus skids off elevated highway

At least 10 people, including two women and as many children, were killed when a bus skidded off an elevated highway and fell down here today, police said. The mishap took place near Bhanaspatti village in Sitamarhi district when the bus, which was heading towards the adjoining town of Muzaffarpur, skidded and came crashing down from atop NH-77 this afternoon, station house officer Shivnarayan Ram said. He said a number of passengers were injured and efforts were on to pull them out of the mangled bus, Ram added.

Man hunting birds dies as his rifle goes off

A 20-year-old man died when his rifle went off accidentally while he was hunting birds near here, police said today. They said people in the area spotted the man, identified as B Santhosh, lying unconscious yesterday and took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Tinder sues rival Bumble alleging patent infringement

Match Group, parent company of popular online dating app Tinder, is suing rival Bumble, alleging patent infringement and misuse of intellectual property.The suit alleges that Bumble "copied Tinder's world-changing, card-swipe-based, mutual opt-in premise," according to TechCrunch.Bumble was founded by CEO Whitney Wolfe, who was also a co-founder of Tinder.Wolfe had earlier sued Tinder alleging sexual harassment.The lawsuit from Tinder accuses former employees Chris Gulczynski and Sarah Mick, who now work for Bumble, of copying design elements."Bumble has released at least two features that its co-founders learned of and developed confidentially while at Tinder in violation of confidentiality agreements," the suit from Tinder added.

BSF officers undergo yoga training at Isha Yoga Centre

A total of 19 senior BSF officers underwent an intensive six-day yoga training, which culminated today at Isha Yoga Centre near here. The officers, consisting of an Additional Director General, Inspectors General, Deputy Inspectors General and Commandants, were initiated into the ancient Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya and also learnt dynamic practises of Upa-Yoga and Surya Kriya. They are all currently posted at various field headquarters as well as at the Force Headquarters. The 'seema praharis', as Border Security Force personnel are referred to, are continuously deployed in exacting operational scenarios and harsh climatic conditions and this combined with prolonged absence of support of family takes toll on their physical and mental health, a release from the centre said. Pak: Spike in attacks on workers of religious parties

Pakistan saw a sharp increase in terror attacks on workers associated with religious parties in 2017 while there was a 50 per cent reduction in attacks on workers of political parties, a new report has said. The figures were part of a report by the Centre For Research And Security Study. 34 workers of religious parties died in 2017 in different incidents whereas 12 had died in 2016. In 2016, 52 workers of political parties were killed while the figure for 2017 was 28. The report further revealed that 80 percent politicians and local leaders were martyred in target killings and suicide attacks. Overall, 2,057 people died in suicide attacks, bomb blasts, personal clashes and other criminal offences in 2017 in Pakistan, which mostly included security forces personnel, and 779 civilians, including 28 politicians.

Malaysia 'snake whisperer' dies after cobra bite

A Malaysian firefighter dubbed the "snake whisperer" has died four days after he was bitten by a wild cobra while responding to a call to catch the aggressive reptile, an official said today. The spitting cobra bit 33-year-old Abu Zarin Hussin on Monday in the central state of Pahang, where he subsequently succumbed its venom in hospital yesterday. The firefighter had gained celebrity status in Malaysia for his ability to closely handle deadly snakes. He was pictured in photos and videos widely circulated online kissing king cobra snakes on the mouth, and appeared on TV show Asia's Got Talent last year rubbing his nose against a serpent's head. Man, bullock killed after vehicle hits bullock cart

, Mar 16 PTI) A 55-year-old man was killed on the spot when an unidentified vehicle hit his bullock cart today on the outskirts of Pamarru village in Krishna district, police said. One of the two bullocks was also killed, while the other was unhurt, they said. G Satyanarayana (55) was heading to his native village Pedana from Vuyyru village after unloading sugarcane when the mishap occurred. A search has been launched to trace the vehicle, police said.

Landmine found beneath pucca road

Security personnel today unearthed a powerful landmine planted underneath a pucca road in Barajamda police station area of naxal-affected West Singhbhum district, a police officer said. Personnel of the CRPF and district police stumbled upon the 80 kg landmine below the Barajamada-Kiriburu road in course of anti-naxal operation on yesterday, Superintendent of Police Mayur Patel said. The explosive was suspected to have been planted CPI(Maoist) extremists to target security personnel. Patel said the landmine has been defused by the bomb disposal squad in the jungle.

BSNL's response on NIB case to be sent to CVC: Sinha

Telecom Department is examining BSNL's response to clarifications sought by CVC over allegations regarding a contract for National Internet Backbone (NIB) expansion, Parliament was informed today. The clarifications will be sent to CVC (Central Vigilance Commission ) for advice, after examination, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. Sinha was replying to a question on whether advice sought by CVC regarding alleged scam in BSNL in the award of contract for expansion of NIB and in annual maintenance contract, had been received. "Clarifications from BSNL have been received and the same are under examination in the department. After examination, clarifications will be sent to CVC for advice," the minister said.
