Meghan Markle baptised ahead of royal wedding: report
US actress Meghan Markle has been baptised by the leader of the Church of England ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry in May, the Daily Mail reported today. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby performed the 45-minute ceremony at London's Chapel Royal on Tuesday in the presence of Prince Charles, her future father-in-law, the paper said. Prince Harry's Kensington Palace office declined to comment. Markle, 36, is understood to have chosen to be baptised and confirmed into the Anglican church out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II's role as the head of the denomination. Talinda Bennington, wife of late Chester Bennington, today launched a mental health awareness campaign on the Linkin Park frontman's birthday. The initiative, called 320 Changes Direction, aims to support people with mental health issues while also working towards transforming the culture and stigma around it. Taking to Twitter on rocker's 42nd birthday, Talinda asked his fans to post photos of themselves holding their hands up with 'I Am The Change' written on them. "To honour Chester, asking you to Change Direction. On March 20th, post a picture holding up your hand, which symbolises you know the 5 signs of emotional well-being. K'taka Lokayukta stabbing: Accused sent to police custody
The man who allegedly stabbed Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty was sent to five-day police custody on Thursday.The state's Lokayukta was stabbed thrice inside his office premises in Bengaluru on Wednesday by an alleged contractor from Tumakuru over complaints regarding some tenders.Terming the incident as 'unfortunate', Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said that the Joint Commission is looking into the matter."Joint Commission is looking into the matter and it will let me know if there were any security lapses. We will come to know about it by evening," Reddy said.Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Prakash Javadekar along with former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar visited Lokayukta Shetty in the hospital, where he is being treated.The judge is out of danger now and undergoing treatment at the Mallaya Hospital.
Balkrishna Doshi becomes first Indian to win architecture's top prize
Nonagenarian architect and reputed urban planner Balkrishna Doshi has been named this year's winner of architecture's highest honour - the Pritzker Prize, becoming the first Indian to do so. His designs include the IIM-Bangalore; Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad; cultural spaces in Ahmedabad such as Tagore Memorial Hall, the Institute of Indology, and Premabhai Hall; and private residence Kamala House (Ahmedabad), among many others. The architect also designed Aranya Low Cost Housing (Indore, 1989), which currently accommodates over 80,000 individuals through a system of houses, courtyards and a labyrinth of internal pathways. Having studied in a Sanskrit-medium school and watching other children read English books, life has come a full circle for small-town author Anuj Tiwari, who now has four novels in the language to his credit. Africa importing vaccines to sterilise monkeys, why can't India: HC asks govt
The Delhi High Court today came down heavily on the government for not importing a vaccine for sterilising monkeys and dogs to control their rising population in the national capital when African countries have already done it. The court said that countries in Africa have been able to control the monkey population by importing the vaccine and it should be done in India also as it is in "larger public interest" and in "animals interest". "Africa is importing the vaccine, why can't India do it? Africa has been able to control the monkeys' population," a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar said. The court also noted that despite its previous order, it has not received any response from Wild Life Institute of India which was asked to expedite the conclusion of the National Institute of Immunology's project to develop an immune-contraception vaccine to control the population of monkeys.
