Spell out stand on demands in 2-3 days: Naidu to Centre

Virtually putting the Modi government on notice, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today demanded that the Centre honour the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 and come out with a clear stand on the state's demands in the next two-three days. At the same time, he admitted for the first time that the 14th Finance Commission had not recommended special category status for any state. "For four years, I did not raise any demand, hoping that being an ally, the BJP will honour the promises made in its manifesto as well and implement the Reorganisation Act in letter and in spirit," said Naidu, the leader of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), a constituent of the Union government. "I have followed the federal spirit and worked on mutual co-operation principle with the Centre. People of the state now feel insulted and if I don't raise my voice now, they will not pardon me," he said while replying to a debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's Address. Couples fail to notice when partner feels down: study

A spouse - usually the primary social supporter for a person - may often fail to realise when their partner is sad, lonely or feeling down. "We found that when it comes to the normal ebb and flow of daily emotions, couples aren't picking up on those occasional changes in 'soft negative' emotions like sadness or feeling down," said Chrystyna Kouros, an associate professor at the Southern Methodist University in the US. Even when a negative mood isn't related to the relationship, it ultimately can be harmful to a couple, said Kouros, lead author on the study published in the journal Family Process. "Failing to pick up on negative feelings one or two days is not a big deal. But if this accumulates, then down the road it could become a problem for the relationship," she said. "It's these missed opportunities to be offering support or talking it out that can compound over time to negatively affect a relationship," said Kouros. The finding is consistent with other research that has shown ...

'Dog-speak' important for bonding with pets: study

Pet owners, take note! Speaking to your pooch is important to build a relationship with your furry friends, just as 'baby-talk' is key to bonding between an infant and an adult. Speech interaction experiments between adult dogs and humans showed that so called "dog-speak" improves attention and may help humans to socially bond with their pets. Previous studies on communicating with dogs had suggested that talking in a high-pitch voice with exaggerated emotion, just as adults do with babies, improved engagement with puppies but made little difference with adult dogs. Researchers at University of York in the UK tested this theory with new experiments designed to understand more about why humans talk to dogs like this and if it is useful to the dogs in some way, or whether humans do this simply because they like to treat dogs in the same way as babies. "A special speech register, known as infant-directed speech, is thought to aid language acquisition and improve the way a human baby ...
