Improve security, parking, and limit noise: Noida police to wedding venues

Marriage lawns and banquet halls in Noida have been asked to keep the volume of music during weddings within permissible limits, police officials said on Sunday. They have also been asked to step up the security on their premises and make sure that CCTV cameras are functional, the officials said. According to an estimate by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), around 17,000 weddings are expected across Noida and Greater Noida this season. The development comes after a 55-year-old man was shot dead by his relative during a wedding at a farmhouse in the Bisrakh area near here on November 27. The accused, who used his licensed revolver to kill his daughter's father-in-law following an argument, was arrested and sent to jail. "We have asked marriage lawns and banquet halls to ensure music is played within the permissible limits and loudspeakers are not used after 11 pm, as per guidelines," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Harish Chander told PTI. Similarly, instruction

Couples looking for destination weddings, more in India: Industry experts

The idea of tying the knot with one's soulmate in a distant dreamy land with exotic foods and clothes decidedly has a certain charm. The place could be far from home, across the seven seas, or simply a few hours' journey to another city or state in India. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his latest "Mann Ki Baat" radio broadcast, encouraged couples to opt for destination weddings within India, industry experts said the trend of getting married away from home is becoming increasingly popular, both internationally and within India. However, there are more such couples who look for romantic and historic landscapes within the country than abroad, they said. Parthip Thyagarajan, CEO of wedding planner WeddingSutra.com, said around 10 per cent "high net worth individuals" opt for destination weddings and an even smaller percentage goes abroad for the occasion. "Many more weddings are happening in Rajasthan, Goa, Mahabalipuram, Kerala and a few other destination wedding hotspots in and

PM Modi questions practice of big families organising weddings abroad

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said he is troubled by the trend of some "big families" conducting weddings abroad, and urged people to hold such celebrations on Indian soil so that the country's money does not leave its shores. In his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi said while shopping for weddings, people should give importance to products made in India only. The wedding season as well has commenced now. Some trade organisations estimate that there could be a business of around Rs 5 lakh crore during this wedding season. While shopping for weddings, all of you should give importance to products made in India only, he said. And yes, since the topic of marriage has come up, one thing has been troubling me off and on for a long time and if I don't open up my heart's pain to my family members, who else do I do it with? Just ponder these days a new milieu is being created by some families to go abroad and conduct weddings. Is this at all necessary? Modi said. He stressed tha

Here's why Oman emerging as new choice for Indian destination weddings

There has been an almost two-fold rise in the number of Indian weddings that took place across various star-category properties located across Oman this year, compared to the corresponding period last year, officials said. A representative of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Sultanate of Oman said Omani officials began communicating with Indian wedding planners many years ago to promote the Sultanate as a potential location for Indian couples looking to experience the warmth and beauty of the country as a wedding destination.
