SC quashes plea against HC order on petition challenging Scindia's election

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea against a Madhya Pradesh High Court order by which issues were framed in a petition challenging the election of Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2020. A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice Pankaj Mithal dismissed the plea filed by Congress leader Govind Singh, who has filed the election petition against Scindia. Singh has challenged the candidature of Scindia as a returned candidate of BJP from Madhya Pradesh in the biennial election for Rajya Sabha held on June 19, 2020, on the ground that while submitting the nomination paper along with an affidavit, the BJP leader did not disclose particulars or information regarding registration of FIR against him and others at Shyamla Hills police station in Bhopal. Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Friday inaugurated a Rs 149-crore beneficiation project of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) at Kanker in Chhattisgarh. The minister virtually inaugurated the SAIL's Silica Reduction Plant set up at the company's Dalli iron ore mines. Around 80 per cent of the reserves of the iron ore mine has been utilized, he said adding certain issues were coming in the utilisation of the remaining 20 per cent reserve like the Fe or iron content was below 60 per cent and silica content was as high as 10 per cent. The plant will improve the Fe content to 62-64 per cent and bring down the silica content to 2-3 per cent. SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash there was a need to refine iron ore of size less than 1 mm to achieve the desired grade for effective usage in the blast

Airlines must devise mechanism for reasonable pricing of air tickets: Govt

The government on Monday asked airlines to devise a mechanism to ensure reasonable airfares amid a surge in air ticket prices, particularly on certain routes that were earlier served by Go First. During an hour-long meeting of the airlines advisory group, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared his concerns about the steep rise in airfares on certain routes. Airlines have been asked to self-monitor airfares on routes that have seen considerable rise in ticket prices, particularly those that were served by Go First earlier. Go First stopped flying from May 3 and the reduction of capacity due to the crisis at the budget airline has come at a time when peak domestic air travel period is round the corner. A mechanism should be devised by airlines to ensure reasonable pricing within the high RBDs (Reservation Booking Designator) and the same would be monitored by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the ministry said in a statement.
