Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Friday inaugurated a Rs 149-crore beneficiation project of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) at Kanker in Chhattisgarh. The minister virtually inaugurated the SAIL's Silica Reduction Plant set up at the company's Dalli iron ore mines. In his address, Scindia said the new plant is an important milestone as it will help the steel maker utilise the low-grade ore from the Dalli mines through the beneficiation process. Around 80 per cent of the reserves of the iron ore mine has been utilized, he said adding certain issues were coming in the utilisation of the remaining 20 per cent reserve like the Fe or iron content was below 60 per cent and silica content was as high as 10 per cent. The plant will improve the Fe content to 62-64 per cent and bring down the silica content to 2-3 per cent. The government policies for steel sector helped the country save Rs 34,800 crore in foreign exchange by reducing imports and added around 60 million tonnes (MT) of crude steel capacity, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said. India pushed Japan to third place to become the world's second largest steel producing nation, the minister for steel said while addressing a press conference titled 'The 9-years of government's seva, sushasan and gareeb kalyan focusing on steel sector'. From an installed capacity of 109.85 MT in 2014-15, India's steel capacity increased by a sharp 46 per cent to 160.30 MT in 2022-23, he said, adding the total production rose 42 per cent from 88.98 MT to 126.26 MT. Earlier at a meeting with the Airlines Advisory Group on Monday, the minister had expressed the need for maximum ticket prices to be within an acceptable range

He added that eight airports have been built in the northeast part of the country
There were no immediate comments from airlines, but airline executives said on condition of anonymity that they would comply with the instruction
The government on Monday asked airlines to devise a mechanism to ensure reasonable airfares amid a surge in air ticket prices, particularly on certain routes that were earlier served by Go First. During an hour-long meeting of the airlines advisory group, Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared his concerns about the steep rise in airfares on certain routes. Airlines have been asked to self-monitor airfares on routes that have seen considerable rise in ticket prices, particularly those that were served by Go First earlier. Go First stopped flying from May 3 and the reduction of capacity due to the crisis at the budget airline has come at a time when peak domestic air travel period is round the corner. A mechanism should be devised by airlines to ensure reasonable pricing within the high RBDs (Reservation Booking Designator) and the same would be monitored by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the ministry said in a statement. Airfares are deregulated und
Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Thursday mocked his former colleague and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia by saying the latter has been given the aviation ministry, which neither has a plane nor an airport. Singh also said he would oppose any possible move by Scindia to return to the Congress ahead of the MP Assembly polls to be held at the end of the year. Just a week before he quit the Congress (in early 2020), Scindia had praised the party while distributing loan waiver certificates to farmers in Karera in Shivpurit when the Kamal Nath government was in place, Singh said. "Then why did he leave the Congress? What did he get? A ministry without an airport and plane. Khud unhonne apne pair pe kulhari mara hai. Now if he tries to rejoin the Congress, I am going to oppose the move," Singh told reporters in Ashok Nagar district. Singh said Scindia may have been upset that he was not made Madhya Pradesh chief minister after the Congress won the 2018 Assembly polls. "A c
