India and China agreed to maintain "peace and tranquillity" on the ground in border areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh during a fresh round of high-level military talks earlier this week. A 5.2 magnitude earthquake hit Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh Monday night but there was no report of any damage, officials said. According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 9.21 pm and its epicentre was 148 km north-west of Kargil. The depth of the tremor was 10 km below the surface, it said. Police said there was no immediate report of any damage. The Union Territory of Ladakh has been experiencing intermittent snowfall since Sunday night.

State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has inked initial pacts worth Rs 500 crore with key state bodies and industry partners at the India Energy Week, to formulate a framework for longstanding collaboration in key areas of energy efficiency. Additionally, Rs 181.71 crore has been allocated for 8 bridges under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme for the fiscal year 2023 24, the road transport and highways minister said. He said Ladakh, the largest Union Territory in terms of area and the second least populous in the country, will witness improved connectivity to its remote villages through the approved initiatives. A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck the Union Territory of Ladakh on Monday, officials said. There were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage, they said. According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 3.48 pm and its epicentre was Kargil.
