Two brothers held for killing man, trying to dispose of body

Police Monday arrested two brothers who allegedly killed a man and attempted to dispose of his body, an offical said. An offence under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) was registered against the duo - Madanlal Harlal Savak (28) and his brother Shravan Harlal Savak (30) - with the Wada police station, said Palghar district rural police PRO Hemant Kumar Katkar. A police team intercepted their car in the wee hours at the Waghota Toll Naka on the Wada-Manor Road, he said. When they checked the car's boot, they found a body in it, Katkar said. The two were trying to dispose of the body of one Narayan Lal Champa Lal Sevak (29) after killing him, he said, adding the deceased was a resident of Rajastan. The motive behind the killing was still not known, the PRO added.

Turkish star Turan could face more than 12 years jail for brawl

Turkish prosecutors on Monday charged Barcelona player Arda Turan over a brawl with a prominent singer, asking for the footballer to be sentenced to twelve-and-a-half years in jail. The prosecutors charged Turan, who is currently on loan to Istanbul's Basaksehir, with sexual harassment, unlicensed possession of weapons and causing intentional injury over the fight with singer Berkay Sahin, the state-run Anadolu news agency said. Sahin, who goes on stage by his first name Berkay, was also charged, with prosecutors demanding up to two years in jail. Turan, 31, had last week been summoned to an Istanbul police station to give a statement about the incident but was allowed to walk free. 79-yr-old man arrested for raping minor in northeast Delhi

A 79-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl on the pretext of giving her a chocolate in northeast Delhi's Khajuri Khas, police said Monday. The incident took place on Saturday when the girl was playing outside her house, a senior officer said. The accused allegedly threatened her of dire consequences if she reported the incident to anyone, he said. The girl narrated her ordeal to her parents, who took her to the police station, the officer added. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's parents, a case was registered under the relevant sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual offences (POCSO) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) said. Police are also probing if the accused had raped the victim on multiple occasions. In a similar incident, a class 10 student of a government school was allegedly raped by four men, including the son of her landlord, who lured her with an offer to buy a pizza, .

History-sheeter rams car into police jeep; two cops injured

Two police officers were injured when a man with criminal antecedents dashed his car into their jeep near here in Maharashtra, police said Monday. The injured, Anil Survase (sub-inspector), and Bhagwan Tayde (assistant sub-inspector) are attached to the Virar police station of the Palghar district rural police, Palghar Police PRO Hemant Kumar Katkar said. The incident took place in Virar Sunday night when a police team patrolling in a jeep spotted Faiaz Khalij Shaikh, who has several criminal cases pending against him, in a car with two women, he said. When the team was about to arrest Shaikh, he pointed revolver at them and dashed his car into their jeep, injuring the two policemen, Katkar said. A manhunt has been launched to nab Shaikh and the women accompanying him, he said. He has been booked under IPC sections related to attempt to murder and other charges besides the provisions of the Arms Act, Katkar added.

Two sharpshooters of gang held in Delhi

Two sharpshooters, allegedly belonging to a gang here, have been arrested from west Delhi, police said Monday. The accused, identified as Pankaj and Karan, said to be members of 'Saddam Gauri' gang were nabbed on Saturday, they said. On Saturday, around 8:15 pm, a speeding car, coming from Tagore Garden side and going towards the Kukreja Hospital, was found to be moving in a suspicious manner. When asked to stop by police, the driver tried to escape. Due to traffic, police apprehended the duo, including the driver, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj said. MNC employee raped by colleagues in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj

An employee of a multinational company was allegedly raped by two of her colleagues in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Saturday, they said. Based on a complaint filed by the victim, a case was registered, they added. Police said the woman was allegedly raped by her colleagues during office hours. The victim was taken to a room in their office where they raped her, a senior police officer said. However, police has denied allegations that the victim was offered lift by her colleagues after office hours and taken to a flat where she was raped. The two accused persons identified as Vinod Kumar (31) and Birju Malik (25) were arrested from their residence in connection with the case on the same day, the officer said.

3 arrested for killing constructor in Delhi's Madipur: Police

Three men were arrested for allegedly thrashing a 36-year-old constructor to death over a monetary dispute in west Delhi's Madipur, police said Monday. The deceased was identified as Nitin while the accused were Jagdish Sharma alias Jaggi (49), Sanjeev alias Babbu (47) and Rajeev alias Billa (37) from Paschim Puri in New Delhi, police said. On Sunday, police received a call from Balaji Action Hospital which informed that a person with bruises all over his body was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead, said Monika Bharadwaj, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West). During investigation, the mobile phone of the deceased was scanned and through technical help, three persons were arrested who later confessed to the crime, the DCP said. IAPL is no Maoist front, says activist Ferreira's lawyer

Indian Association of People's Lawyers (IAPL) to which activist Arun Ferreira belonged had no connection with the Naxals, his lawyer told the court here Monday. Ferreira was arrested by Pune police for alleged Maoist links. Hry police arrests parole jumper after 14 years

The Haryana Police has arrested a murder convict who had jumped parole 14 years ago, a spokesman said Monday. Satpal alias Pala, a resident of Alipur village in Jind, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in 2004, he said. Satpal came out of the jail on a six-week parole on November 5, 2004. However, he failed to return to the jail at the end of his parole on December 18, 2004 and was declared a proclaimed offender, the spokesman said. Acting on a tip-off that Satpal is working as a priest in a temple, police arrested him from Moga town, he added.

Case filed in Bihar court against Raveena Tandon for 'disrupting traffic'

A lawyer Monday moved court here against Bollywoood actor Raveena Tandon for allegedly causing disruption to road traffic during her visit to the town last week. The advocate filed the case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate wherein he has named Tandon and a father-son duo -- Pranav Kumar and Umesh Singh. Tondon had visited the town on October 12 for inaugurating a hotel owned by the two other accused. The lawyer has sought invoking several IPC sections including those related to unlawful assembly and obstruction in public way. He has alleged that he was held up in a traffic jam for a long time because of Tandon's function. The court has fixed November 2 as the next date of hearing on the matter.

Stray ox kills 16-yr-old girl

A 16-year-old girl was killed by a stray ox here on Monday, police said. The deceased was identified as Preet Devi, a Class IX student, from Sakraon village adjoining Ambala city. Preet was on her way to school when the incident occurred, police said. "The sixteen year-old was crossing a village street near her house when the ox attacked her. The girl fell on the ground as the animal hit her repeatedly. She suffered serious head injuries," an official said. Preet was rushed to Ambala City Trauma Centre where she succumbed to injuries, officials added. The locals said they had earlier complained on the menace of stray cattle to the administration, but allegedly no action was taken. Two months ago, around 10 lawyers from Ambala City filed a complaint at a local court against the municipal corporation here regarding stray cattle menace. The court had directed the corporation to take steps to check the menace.

3 persons arrested from Delhi for shooting dead man in Dadar

Three people were arrested from Delhi in connection with the killing of a 35-year-old man last week in Dadar here, police said Monday. Manoj Mourya, who worked at an electronic weighing scales firm, was shot dead on Senapati Bapat Road at around 7:30am Friday. Acting on a tip off, police Sunday arrested main accused Radhakrishna Kushwaha as well as Rajendra Ahirwar and Hemendra Kushwaha from Delhi, the official said. The official said that Radhakrishna had allegedly hired Ahirwar and Hemendra who executed the hit. The killing was the result of a past enmity between Mourya and the main accused, he informed. The three were produced before a court here which remanded them in police custody. Dadar police, which had registered a case of murder, is probing further, he said.

Three-year-old girl found dead, murder case registered

The body of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl, who had gone missing, was found Monday from a locked house in the same building where she lived in Surat city, police said. A case of murder was registered and the body was sent for autopsy, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Rakesh Barot. The body was found in a house on the ground floor of the building in Godadra area, he said. The house was locked from outside, he added. The girl's family lives on the first floor of the building, which is a housing society. As to whether she was sexually assaulted, it will be ascertained after the autopsy, the DCP said.
