Cong's General Secy Priyanka Gandhi to address rally in Gwalior on Friday

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will address a public meeting in Gwalior, the home turf of Union minister and former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Friday, a party office-bearer said. This would be Priyanka Gandhi's second visit to the state, where assembly elections are due by the year-end, in 40 days. "Priyankaji will reach Gwalior at 11 am and then visit the memorial of Rani Laxmibai, where she will pay homage to the great freedom fighter," MP Congress's media department chairman K K Mishra told PTI on Thursday. Priyanka Gandhi will address a public meeting at Mela Maiden around 11.30 am, he said. On June 12, she kickstarted her party's campaign in the state by addressing a rally in Jabalpur, where she said that if the Congress was voted to power in the state, it would implement five schemes, including Rs 1,500 financial assistance per month to women, free electricity up to 100 units and restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS). She had accused the ...

Even God not spared in MP, says Digvijaya as Congress holds protests

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday said corruption was rampant in BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh, and even God has not been spared. During the day, the Congress staged protests in 51 districts of the state against corruption, highlighting the May 28 incident where six idols installed at Ujjain's Mahakal Lok Corridor collapsed due to the high winds, the June 12 fire at Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal where government offices are housed, and rising inflation. We could not hold protest in two districts -- Indore and Jhabua -- due to inclement weather, chairman of the MP Congress media cell K K Mishra told PTI. Elections are due in MP by year-end. When Kamal Nath was chief minister, he had sanctioned Rs 300-350 crore for the renovation of the Mahakaleshwar temple at Ujjain. A contractor from Gujarat assured that the idols installed there would remain intact for a century. But they tumbled in the light wind within just one year," Singh said at the meeting here. Priyanka Gandhi to kick-start Cong's MP poll campaign with Jabalpur rally

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will kick off the Congress's campaign for the year-end Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls from Jabalpur on Monday after praying at the banks of the Narmada river, a party leader said. Jabalpur is at the centre of the state's Mahakoshal region, which has a sizable number of tribal voters. In the 2018 Assembly polls, the Congress won 11 of the 13 Scheduled Tribe reserved seats in the eight-district division, with the remaining two bagged by the Bharatiya Janata Party. "Priyanka ji will launch the party's campaign and Sankalp 2023 by addressing a public meeting at Shahid Smarak at around 11.15 am. She will land here at around 10:30am and head to Gwarighat to pray to Narmada river, Jabalpur mayor and Congress' city chief Jagat Bahadur Singh earlier told PTI. En route to the rally venue eight kilometres away, she will garland a statue of Rani Durgavati, who attained martyrdom fighting the Mughals, he said, adding the rally will be attended by at least two lakh ...

MP Assembly polls: Will give preference to women on 100-120 seats, says AAP

Madhya Pradesh Aam Aadmi Party president Rani Agrawal on Saturday said the party would give preference to women on 100-120 seats in the Assembly polls set to be held in the state at the end of the year. Speaking to reporters at Indore Press Club, she said the people of MP did not have a choice so far as all polls were a straight fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has ruled for a dominant part of the last two decades, and the Congress. "I will give priority to women during candidate selection for 100 to 120 seats in the upcoming MP Assembly polls. AAP will contest on all 230 seats in the state. Till now, the people did not have a choice apart from the BJP and Congress. But now they have AAP, which is moving forward to form a government," she claimed. Agrawal, who is the mayor of Singrauli city, said AAP would declare its chief ministerial candidate for MP after seeking public opinion, like it had done in Punjab, where it won a landslide victory, and Gujarat, where the ..

BJP will win more than 200 seats in MP Assembly polls, says Nadda

Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda on Sunday said his party would win more than 200 out of 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, where elections are set to be held at the end of the year. He has arrived in the state capital to lay the foundation stone of a BJP office. "The warm welcome accorded to me by the spirited BJP cadre shows we are going to more than 200 Assembly seats in MP," he said. The 2018 elections in Madhya Pradesh threw up a hung Assembly, with the Congress emerging as the largest party with 114 seats in the 230-member House, while the BJP won on 109 seats. However, the BJP got 41.02 per cent votes against the Congress' 40.89 per cent. The Congress formed a government under Kamal Nath, which fell in March 2020 when MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia revolted, paving the way for the return of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief minister.

CM Chouhan, Kamal Nath engage in 'question war' on poll promises

With the Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh due this year-end, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Congress president Kamal Nath have been engaged in a bitter 'question war' since a fortnight, seeking to know from each other about the "unfulfilled" poll promises. The opposition Congress, which formed government in the state in December 2018 but lost power in March 2020, has started making a slew of promises, including farm loan waiver and implementation of the old pension scheme. However, CM Chouhan, who has been posing questions to the opposition party almost everyday, recently told mediapersons that, The Congress has started making false promises again. It was in power for 15 months and had issued a 973-point manifesto." "They have not fulfilled a single promise. At that time, the Bharatiya Janata Party was in opposition. Now, we are asking questions based on those false promises. We are also asking questions as the Congress has started coming up with false promises again

Will increase old age pension to Rs 1k a month if elected in MP: Kamal Nath

Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath on Monday said his party would increase old age pension to Rs 1,000 per month if it came to power in the Assembly polls likely to be held at the end of next year. He had earlier promised to bring back the old pension scheme (OPS) and farm loan waiver. "We increased the old age pension from Rs 300 to Rs 600 and were going to take it further to Rs 1000. But our government was toppled through bargaining and the right of the elderly to get a pension of Rs 1000 per month was crushed," Nath tweeted. "As soon as the Congress government is formed in Madhya Pradesh, we will increase the old age pension to Rs 1000 per month," he added. On December 12, he said the Congress, if elected to power, will bring back OPS, which is a major demand of government employees. In MP, all government employees appointed on or after January 1, 2005 are covered under the new pension scheme (NPS). On December 18, he had tweeted the party's farm loan waiver scheme, w

Bharat Jodo Yatra raises Cong supporters' hopes year ahead of MP elections

The Congress has been claiming that Rahul Gandhi's ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra has nothing to do with electoral politics, but it has raised hopes of the party's cadres and supporters ahead of the next year's Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh. The cross-country march led by Gandhi is currently passing through the state. After winning a slim majority in 2018, the Congress formed government in Madhya Pradesh by taking along some independents, dethroning the BJP which was in power for more than a decade. But the Kamal Nath government collapsed in March 2020 after 22 legislators from Jyotiraditya Scindia's camp resigned, paving the way for the BJP's return to power. We have been with the Congress for three generations. I gave up a day's wages to join the Yatra. It will lead to a change of power in the state, said Parasram Adhya (40), who got the opportunity to interact with Rahul Gandhi at Khargone. The state BJP pooh-poohed the Yatra's supposed impact on the Grand Old Party's ...
