The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation along with state licensing authorities has conducted risk-based inspections of 162 pharmaceutical firms and issued show cause notices in 143 cases, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Tuesday. In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, he said stop production order has been issued in 40 cases, cancellation and suspension of product/section licenses in 66 cases, issuance of warning letter in 21 cases and in one case, an FIR has been lodged and three persons have been arrested as per the provisions of the Drugs Rules, 1945. He also said that the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued a notification on May 22 for amendment in export policy of cough syrups, making it compulsory for cough syrup manufacturers to get certificate of analysis from a government-approved laboratory before exporting their products with effect from June 1. The National Exit Test (NExT) regulations notified on June 27 were framed by the National Medical Commission (NMC) after taking into consideration nearly 6,500 comments received during the consultation process, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The draft regulations were discussed and approved in the meeting of the NMC where universities and state medical councils were also represented, Mandaviya said in response to a question. The National Medical Commission (NMC) had notified the NExT Regulations, 2023, on June 27. "The regulations were prepared after taking into consideration the large number (nearly 6,500) comments received during the consultation process," Mandaviya said. There were apprehensions raised by students including those from Tamil Nadu, which were taken into consideration and the NExT has been deferred vide a public notice dated July 13, the minister said. The Union Health ministry's e-health initiative eSanjeevani has clocked over 14.17 crore teleconsultations from April 2021 when it was launched till July 26 this year, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The telemedicine application provides doctor-to-doctor and patient-to-doctor consultations, Mandaviya said responding to a question. The application, launched on April 13, 2021, works on a hub and spoke model where doctors, including specialists, provide services to patients in Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in rural areas, the minister said. The government's national mental health helpline Tele MANAS, a toll-free service, has received more than 2,00,000 calls from various parts of the country since its launch in October last year. It was started by the Union Health Ministry to strengthen mental health service delivery in India. There has been an exponential rise in the number of calls received by the helpline. In merely three months, the number reached two lakh from one lakh calls received in April 2023, the ministry said in a statement. The government aims to open 10,000 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) by March to improve the common man's access to generic medicines, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Lok Sabha on Friday. Till June 30, 9,512 PMBJKs have been opened across the country. The Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002 prescribes that every physician should prescribe drugs with generic names legibly and preferably in capital letters, he said in a written response to a question in the House. The Directorate General of Health Services has directed all Centre-run hospitals to prescribe generic medicines only. Similar instructions also have been issued to all CGHS doctors and wellness centres.
